Windows 10: Windows 10 PC will not boot without D drive plugged in.

I have an NVMe SSD that I originally installed Windows on, and a hard drive that is mostly for bulk storage. Recently, I found that the hard drive was starting to have damaged sectors on it and is slowly failing. I bought a new SSD to replace it, swapped everything I could over, but when I went to unplug the hard drive it would not boot. What I understand is that I had the hard drive plugged in when I installed windows initially and it created a reserved partition on it for booting. My problem now is that I don't know what steps I should take to be able to remove the hard drive and still have

Is Windows 10 also limited to a max of 3Tb for a boot drive?
