  1. Windows 10 = Performance drops

    Hi guys,

I recently upgraded to windows 10 (Clean install) from windows 7 64-bit. I have a Geforce GTX 970 GPU, latest drivers, latest BIOS. In fact the computer isn't over 2 months old.
However after upgrading to Windows 10, I have experienced substantial performance drops in all my games, some worse than others. A few examples:

Planet side 2: Intermittent lagging, stutters....when I get closer to action...the FPS drops down to 15 or so...unplayable. This was never a problem in Windows 7.

Dino D-Day: While in spectate mode, looking around is flawless...the second I'm a player in game, when I look around its as if the gun is lagging behind. Looks as if its vibrating/jittering. Turning Vsync off makes this jitter even worse, having it as triple buffer offers best results but still terrible, there is also flickering of the textures (arms) when I change weapons. Strafing is flawless its only when I move the mouse.

I did a clean of the GPU drivers using DDU in safe mode and re-installed the latest for windows 10. No dice.
    Uninstalled realtek audio drivers. Nothing
    Uninstalled norton. Nothing

All other drivers have been installed directly from the ASUS website for the motherboard (Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1)

If you guys like I could record some of these flaws and upload a video to youtube.

Just noticed the idle temp for the GPU is 65 degrees....in win 7 it was 43 :\

    Thanks in advance

    :)

  3. performance drop

That is very helpful indeed, Ugo.

I have recovered my current Win10 key using Nirsoft.

From windowsiso.net I identified the ISO to install from Win7 as : Microsoft Windows 10 1703 Creators Update (CU) Download (Build 15063.0) – Standard - is this correct?

So my question really is: how to go back to Win7? I have no optical drive on this machine and so the item on my order inventory Windows 7 Professional (64Bit) OS Recovery - DVD is not going to be much use to me.

The answer I think is found here: How to Download and Use the Dell OS Recovery Image in Microsoft Windows | Dell Deutschland , which has How to Download and Use the Dell OS Recovery Image in Microsoft
    Windows
and this is where I stopped yesterday, not knowing how easy the upgrade to Win10 would be - also I would have no doubt ended up with the 1709 Fall Update.

I understand the thing about metered connections, I think I already set that as otherwise I get my night-time batch jobs interrupted with a courtesy reboot.

You don't actually say this but I think the reasoning for this roundabout route via Win7 is that Microsoft don't actually allow users to roll back to e.g. 1703, but they do allow this 'alternative strategy'. Is that right?

Finally, should I not worry about that blue screen and the file InvProtectDrv64.sys? I find one of these on my PC, 50kB, modified date: 2014-07. Maybe I get this gratis with a fresh install? No idea.

You have been a great help already!

    Welcome to Ten-Forums!

I am assuming the PSU is enough power since you used the same card for Windows 7. How many watts and amps on the +12v rail ?
Kind of warm for idle,i have the same card and is at 36c reading your post. I believe this GPU max is around 90c. Any in game software to monitor temps ? Can try bench marking the GPU with this to see how it reacts and watch the temps with this program and Frames per second.
    UNIGINE Benchmarks

Make sure fans are working on the Graphics card, with mine they turn on at 50-60c this is mattering to the BIOS of the card.
Also make sure you are not running to many other processes while gaming, check Startup tab in Task Manager try eliminating programs that startup and stay running. As i do not know much about the rest of your system try filling in system specs as much as you can to help.

Try rolling back to a non-v364.xx-Driver, because they seem all quite buggy and plenty users have major issues with them.

You may want to make sure that you have un-installed / removed the actual driver properly and DDU might help you with it: Display Driver Uninstaller v15.7.5.5

I am still on 362.00 myself so i am not sure this is the only cause of the issue as i have not tested those drivers on mine being the same chipset card.

I had issues with disappearing NVIDIA-Control-Panel-Sections, not properly working VSync-Settings and really choppy game-play in the last Need for Speed.

Beside IObit's Driver Booster 3 Pro, I always double-check available drivers at Necacom.

But his symptoms could be caused by several things, that's right.

fill in your system specs , what drivers are you running? is your monitor running over 144hz? 1440p? download and install msi afterburner let us know exactly what your fans are doing and what your clock sppeds are at idle , lagging and stuttering occurs when you max out your gpu memory are all your ingame settings the same? that temp is far too high looks like your gpu isnt downclocking to 2d

a youtube vid would be ideal set up msi afterburner to display core speed , memory speed , memory usage both gpu and physical , gpu temp , fps and cpu temps ingame (its easy to set up just shout if you need help *Smile )
