Windows 10: Windows 10 permanently changing a user Microsoft account on a PC

I have an older windows all in one pc. It started with I think windows 8.1 non touch screen and was upgraded to windows 10. It belonged to my aunt and I am going to reformat it and give it another older lady in her building. The lady already has a older windows 10 laptop and uses office and outlook email. I know her Microsoft account email login her outlook email address. But finding her password is a little hard at the moment because I do not have laptop or access to it. Or her email to do a reset password for her Microsoft account. Plus if I reset it it would cause her to have to enter t

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown

 

Change Microsoft User account in Windows 10

We understand your concern, as you are looking for an option to change the email account on the login screen for the new PC that was used by the old PC.



In that scenario, perform these steps and convert the Microsoft User Account from Outlook account to Hotmail account.

1. Press Windows + I key from the keyboard, to launch
   Windows Settings.
   
2. Select Accounts and click on
   Your info from the left pane.
   
3. Click on Sign in with a local account instead and follow the onscreen steps.
   
4. Once the user account converted to a
   local account perform step 1 & 2.
   
5. Click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead and use the Hotmail account that you used in the old PC.

Hi Daryl, welcome to the Ten Forums.

It's quite easy in fact, simply switch the account in question first to a local account, then switch back to a Microsoft account, this time using your wife's MS account credentials.

Notice that before doing this you need to remove the new additional MS account on the PC, the one you created with her credentials. Windows allows only one user account for each email address, if the new account exists you cannot switch the original administrator account to an MS account using the same email address.
