    Windows 10 "pin to start" and "resize icons" recently stopped working on our LAN connected...


    In the last 3-4 weeks I have noticed that whenever I log into a LAN-connected machine, I can no longer pin anything to the start menu and the icons that are already there are "HUGE" and can't be resized. I have tried various registry hacks and have also looked into the group policy editor to fix this to no avail. Now our users are complaining about this change and not being able to pin anything to the start menu. I can only "pin to taskbar" now. Does anyone have a fix for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    'Pin to Start' and 'Unpin from Start" items in Windows 10


    Thanks Cliff. The first suggestion didn't work because the shortcut icon is not listed. The second easier suggestion didn't work because right-clicking does not include "Open File Location" as an option, only "Unpin from Start" and "Resize". Screenshots are included. "xmltobgl" is the culprit icon.

    It doesn't work off the start menu in win10, I posted the same a few weeks ago.

    Oddly, if the programs appear in most recent used, then you do get the recent files list. Or if you pin to the task bar, you also get the recent list if you right click the icon.

    Microsoft's proper name for these recent files is jump list.

    Some has shown a beta of a later win10, and the jump list might return if pinned to the start menu. Doubly annoying is if you pin a program to the start menu, it's removed from most used.

    Only "pin to start" (as a tile) and not "pin to start menu"?

    I can't pin any icons to the start list, I can only pin them as resizable tiles to the right side. Shift + right click does not give me the option "pin to start list" within the start menu. See snip below, that's shift+right click on Notepad, sorry for the colors. I do get the option when I shift-right-click an icon in Windows Explorer, but they still don't show in the left list. I only have

    Places
    File Explorer
    Documents
    Settings

    And at the bottom I have
    Recently added:

    If I have to make registry tweaks to make the non continuum start menu go away I might as well install Classic Shell.
