The check with "winver" says it's Win10 Pro. Ok, interesting about the dump files. Not sure what they are but I did have a crashing problem initially after the Win10 update. It's become more stable after the recommended uninstall of Spybot S&D. So these dump files are the result of those earlier crashes?

Yes either earlier crashes or latest ones... If you type "Reliability Monitor" in your Windows search , it will show you when and what those programs that crashed are.

But CCleaner is reporting it is on Windows 8.1 Pro ....look at the VERY Top Screen in your screen shot....

Interesting. The crashes happened while using a few other programs like Firefox, Thunderbird, Skype etc. I didn't open any of the listed programs in Ccleaner. Maybe Ccleaner needs an update - I'll check on that and report back.

Windows Script Host also confirms Windows 10 v10.0.10586.0

I downloaded the v5.19.5637 update for CCleaner and it installed fine and now shows Windows 10 instead of Windows 8.1 Analysis seems to shows the same list to clean as the one before.

The Reliability Monitor is cool. Did that exist in Win7? It starts on the day I did the Win10 install and the crashes it shows are "Windows ... Shutdown unexpectedly" entries. Now that I think of it, I want to preserve the record it's keeping so I don't want CCleaner to clean that. Is there something that if it's checked for cleaning in CCleaner, it will clean this record? If so what is it so I can uncheck it before I clean.

Don't check mark these 3 options in CCleaner.
    Windows Log Files
    Windows Event logs
    Windows Error Reporting

Is he missing the Cumulative Update? Shouldn't it be 10586.420?

Didn't see where he posted his WINVER.....

Also, might want to exclude Windows Defender from CCleaner.

Good Points TC !! Didn't see that post when he put in his version information.
I didn't think of turning off Defender, as I've never used it. *Redface
Think we have asked the OP for a screenshot of his Winver at least once already. ( Slartybart )
@BretMan Could you please post a Screenshot of your Winver (Block out any personal info) so we can check your Build # ??
    Thanks, Mike *Smile

I didn't post all the winver info since just the Win10 version was all that was asked for then. I'm not sure what exactly is personal in it but I blocked anything with "ID" in it, below:

Windows 10 post install tips or bugs [IMG]

The 3 CCleaner item you listed are now unchecked. Windows Defender isn't listed. Does that mean Win10 turned off my On setting of it from Win7? Aside from not wanting CCleaner to delete handy troubleshooting records, I also want to minimize the availability of any personal info., if possible, which may be accessed by malware. Regarding this is there anything I should leave checked in CCleaner to clean? The Windows Advanced section lists: Windows Event Logs (leaving unchecked), Old Prefetch Data, Menu Order Cache, Tray Notifications Cache, Windows Size/Location Cache, Environment Path, User Assist History, IIS Log Files, Old Windows Installation, Custom Files & Folders, Wipe Free Space. Do any of those possible contain data that could come back to haunt me with malware?

Ok. Wow, it does seem to need updating but is strange since I just installed the latest so recently with the Win10 update.

I missed Windows Defender in CCleaner Utilities. I looked for it under Windows and I see it now under Utilities and unchecked it. Thanks. Now I noticed that by default, after the CCleaner update install yesterday, Acronis True Image is listed and unchecked. This is odd because I don't have Acronis installed and isn't in my list of apps. I may have installed a trialware in the past but I would have uninstalled it. Revo doesn't list it either. Any suggestions about what to do with that?

Don't worry about that app, if you don't have it installed. *Smile Those are just default apps CCleaner puts in their app.
But you need to run your Windows update soon as possible. You might have used a VERY Old Windows ISO file to update your computer, that is why you are running a very old version. The latest Windows ISO is much newer than the ISO you used. *Smile

Going back to the original question I recommend:

    • Run sfc /scannow to check the installation
    • Create an All Tasks shortcut see https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...dows-10-a.html
    • Run a Belarc Advisor report to check the installation and report missing updates
    • Install Classic Shell and configure it to use mouse hover to open the Classic Shell menu and left click to open the Windows Start Menu
    • Confirm the Windows recovery options using reagentc /info
    • Check the boot configuration with bcdedit /enum
    • Check System Restore is enabled if you want to use it
    • Make a baseline Macrium Refeflect system backup as soon as you have a working activated Windows 10 installation and again after you have configured your installation
    • Compare the driver versions installed by Windows 10 with the manufactuer's drivers for your PC. Generally it's best to keep the Windows 10 installed drivers apart from using the latest WHQL graphics drivers.

Great. Thanks. I'll check all that out.

Something I noticed yesterday while using File Explorer. In Win7 below the toolbar, were a few tabs or buttons, one of which was "New Folder" or "Add Folder". Now in File Explorer I have the R-Click the window, > New > Folder, to add a folder each time. It seems hardly any of my Win7 settings were preserved when updating to Win10. Anyway, how do I add a New Folder tab into the File Explorer windows?
