I was able to find the solution to the missing "New Folder" button: New Folder button in Windows 10? - Super User

Starting with OldMike65's suggestion to update my Win10 ASAP, I used Windows Update and the latest update it installed was a security update from yesterday and there was another it installed today. I had it check for updates and it said my system is up to date. What does this mean, if you say it's old?

Ok, I ran the update check again right now. Here's the Windows Update result:

You're up to date. 10586.420 is the latest cumulative update for you. The slmgr must only report the base version, not with any updates. @OldMike65, Mike, could that be the case?

Mike is not on right now, but he'll be back..... TC

Thanks TC for the heads up, yes I believe using the slmgr /dlv command only shows the base OS installed, and license information.

BretMans Windows 10 Pro is up to date, as his Winver displays with a retail license. *Smile

Well your Windows 10 Pro is right up to date, which shows in your latest screenshot BretMan. Last pic you showed up did not give us the latest build # , that's why we thought your Windows was an older release. You are fine. !!! Thanks for clearing that up.
You might want to add Malwarebytes to your Windows 10 Pro for added protection.

Great, thanks!, that's good to know.

Another thing I didn't like was that the system tray clock was changed to a digital one in Windows 10. I think it's pretty ugly but I guess that's subjective. Anyway, I followed these instructions except that the path in regedit shown in this article is wrong. The correct path is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell
The rest of the instructions are right: How Do I Switch Back to the Old Clock in Windows 10?

Really not sure about making any cosmetic changes to your existing Windows 10 right now, as on Aug 2nd when the Redstone Anniversary update is released to everyone, most likely any changes you do, will be removed after the update is installed. You might be better off holding off for a few more weeks before trying to change your Windows 10 to look like Windows 7 . Of course the choice is yours.

Just when I was beginning to think we might be done .. now there's an issue with backing up. I use AOMEI Backupper v3.2 and did the last backup just before the upgrade to Win10. Not that it seems I have the real bugs worked out, I tried to perform the next incremental backup. My external drive is a relatively new and lightly used Western Digital matching my local HDD and AOMEI hasn't had any problems recognizing it. A couple seconds after initiating an incremental backup I get this error message:

Windows 10 post install tips or bugs [IMG]

AOMEI explains the 4101 error code as:
"Information code 4101: Failed to create file

Solution: Please check if the account you login has access permission for the destination location and check if there is enough free space to save the backup image.
If you are trying to make a full/incremental/differential backup based on a backup task that already exists, please make sure that backup task is valid. You may run “Check Image” feature in the “Advanced” menu to check whether it is valid. If it is invalid, you need to reload the task.
If you back up to NAS, you can try to map the network drive as a local drive in windows and then please set the mapped drive as the destination location. Click here to learn more details."

None of the above seems to apply and I suspect it probably has something to do with the Win10 upgrade. If I need to format my external HDD again I can do that although I was preserving that last Win7 backup just in case I need it to roll back - but It's unlikely I'll do that.

    Please advise.

I would still do a clean intall *Biggrin Then just reinstall what you want. The icons will probably work properly then - and everything else as well.

Thanks. The icons issue was resolved a while ago. Now it about the backup.

Just to see if its a software issue (Aomei) or something else, why don't you try using a different image backup? Try using Macrium Reflect Free .....to that external drive as a test. Just make 1 complete image backup to that drive, and see what happens.
