Windows 10 preview update adds new Task Manager option

Microsoft is rolling out a new Windows 10 preview update Build 19541 and it comes with a couple of minor new features. Windows 10 Build 19541 is available for testers in the Fast Ring of Windows Insider program and it includes a couple of minor improvements which may or may not ship in 2020.

Windows 10 Build 19541 could be part of 20H2 ‘Manganese’ release, the next-next version of the desktop OS scheduled to ship sometime in the second half of 2020.

According to the changelog, Build 19541 adds an icon to the taskbar to let users know when an app is using their location. With Windows 10 November 2019 Update, Microsoft added a similar icon to let users know when an app is accessing the device’s microphone.

Windows 10 Build 19541 has also added a new option to Task Manager that will show users the architecture of each process. You will find a new ‘architecture’ option in the Details tab in Task Manager.

As we noted above, the features included in Fast Ring builds won’t be tied to a specific Windows 10 feature update. In other words, we don’t know when these new features and improvements will land in Windows 10 production builds and some features may never end up coming to market.

Windows 10 Task Manager to Get GPU Utilization Tab

Microsoft is working on an update to Windows 10, which among several other things, adds a GPU utilization tab to Task Manager. You will be able to monitor each individual GPU in your machine, and Task Manager will give you live utilization stats for the GPU's 3D load, Video hardware-acceleration (encode/decode) load, dedicated memory usage, shared memory usage, and basic driver information such as driver version and date. For now the update is part of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16226; and will make it to the main-release in the coming months.

Windows 10 - cannot add exec to Startup in Task Manager

I purchased a new computer with Windows 10 already installed. I am trying to add an exec to the startup list but Win10 will not accept it. The exec runs successfully on my Windows 10 machine if I start it manually.

Steps I've taken: Task Manager, Startup Tab, File>Run New Task. (browse to location, select.) It will start immediately, but does not show up on the list to autostart, nor does it start on reboot.

    Any suggestions?

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
