  1. Windows 10 pro build 17134.285 - All USB ports fail

This has been a on/off problem for me with windows 10 as sometimes after an update I lose all USB activity, no keyboard and now mouse make troubleshooting hard.

I know the problem revolves around the usb 3.1 eXtensible host controller driver. when everything is running "fine" I see my motherboards driver loaded ASMedia USB3.1 version 1.16.38.1 and when I'm force to use my old p/s keyboard and shortcut it around cause windows 10 wants to not use USB devices I find a Intel version 1.10 in it's place. Delete all the usb drivers, restart and hope the ASmedia version loads. I'm getting to the point I'm scared to let windows 10 connect anymore to the web.

Now I've looked https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=asmedia%20USB3.1 and found nothing newer then the version installed and the same goes for http://www.asmedia.com.tw/eng/e_products_list.php?item=83&cate_index=0, to which I'm still waiting for their support to get back to me to see if there is anything newer in the works or if I can test another driver.

I'm not sure if they are at fault or Microsoft but I know I can purposely trigger the fault by enabling core isolation under device security, to which it will always load the intel eXtensible driver. So I just keep it disabled since this problem started about a year ago.

Nothing hardware wrong as the usb controller checks out fine running any other O/S.

    mobo is a ASUSTek x-99-A/USB3.1 rev1

I'm looking for help and not the cut and paste please run this for virus and compatibility check tools. I'll look at them but pretty sure I've tried them all.

    :)

    USB ports failed

    Hi,

To fully isolate where this problem is coming from, please answer the following:

    • Have you tried connecting the peripheral devices to another computer to check if they will function?
    • How old is the laptop?

You can find additional things to try to fix USB port problems on this
    page.

We also suggest you run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter
in Windows 10. Here are the steps:

    • Press the Windows key on your keyboard.
    • Type Troubleshooting then press Enter.
    • On the left side, click View all.
    • Select Hardware and Devices.
    • Click Next and see if it will find any problems.

Keep us updated about the issue.

    USB port not working

I have an HP Pavilion dv6604nr laptop. I have 3 USB ports, 2 located on the left side and one located on the right side near the power supply port. For some reason, one of the USB ports on the left hand side will not recognize anything that is plugged
into it. I have done all the steps and suggestions that is posted on this site, and still can't get it to work. The message I get is "The last USB device that was connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows in the Device Manager
as Unknown USB Device(Port Reset Failed). When I have a USB device plugged into the non-working port, it shows up in the Devices and Printers folder, but the device does not work. I am at my wits end. Can anyone help me or suggest any other things to try?
Oh, I am running Windows 10 pro.

    Hi Laura,

We would like to know more information regarding the "usb port reset fail" error that you are getting. To verify whether this issue is being caused by the port or the external device, we would like to gather more information:

    • What external device are you trying to connect to your computer?
    • Have you tried connecting the external device to another port or different computer?
    • Have you tried connecting a different external device to the port?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

    Regards.
