Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro, Cortana does not seem to exist, Language Correct?

Hey people, I just installed the latest update to windows 10 (pro) and I cant get cortana to work. Infact, every since upgrading from windows 10 home to pro i dont remember a time when cortana was working *Huh

Ive attached a picture of the taskbar where cortana is supposed to sit. Theres no initiation icon. "hey cortana" doesnt result in anything. the australian english language pack is installed. When I click cortana's search box, it doesnt look correct, as attached in picture 2 (2016-08-03). And I can't use the search box to search for files either.

in gpedit.msc in search, everything is set to "not configured" and "no".

Does Cortana replace Windows Speech Recognition now with Surface Pro 4?

I tried dictating text (speaking instead of typing into documents) with Windows Surface Pro 3, Windows 8.1 Pro upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (in Japan, and the American English language packs installed on
8.1 Pro did not fully replace the Japanese, even after upgrading to 10 Pro), but I had to use Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) and there was interference between it and Cortana, and Windows 10 Pro had outdated menu links regarding WSR (opening a useless Bing
search).

1. Does Windows Speech Recognition still clash with Cortana for the new Surface Pro 4? (Several weeks ago, WSR did not work more than half the time, as described above and in other threads I've posted in.)

2. Are you working to have Cortana replace WSR, e.g. so that it'll allow us to talk instead of type?

3. Does usability of WSR and Cortana depend on product or OS?

4. Even if I set the region to USA, will Cortana not be available for Japan's Surface Pro 4? Would I be forced to use the Japanese Cortana instead?

5. Is there a way to have American Cortana but keep the region as Japan? (What is the region setting actually for?)

Please integrate Cortana and Windows Speech Recognition together so she replaces it (or so that it works without mutual interference with Cortana; even starting the software was a problem, as the microphone
boot-up seemed to trigger Cortana's listening activation, or vice versa).

 

Error 0x800F0908 in Windows 10 Pro Build 1511

I am a UK user. Why does Cortana work on my Windows 10 Home computer and not on my Windows 10 Pro after updating to Build 1511.

Both worked with the previous Build. Windows 10 Pro is now stuck with English USA Speach where it had both USA & UK Languages, so I deleted the USA, (as I also did for my Windows 10 Home, which worked). Now Windows 10 Pro cannot download the UK settings
to fix Cortana because of error code 0x800F0908.

Hi, Changing the language completely and successfully is a several stage process, not as straightforward as you might think or hope.

You are correct that Cortana doesn't look right- when properly configured there should be 6 buttons down the left side.

I would suggest you first try reverting to the default language settings and see if Cortana works, so as to prove nothing else is broken. Having done that, check Settings, General and make sure 'Some settings are managed by your organisation' is not displayed.

Once you have got Cortana working, create a disk image (everyone should use disk imaging so as to be able to restore their system to a previously working state without technical help - e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot medium + external storage).

Now try changing your language. This requires also downloading the speech language and at least one other item, and setting your location appropriately. Cortana should indicate that things need to be done to keep it happy.

Finally, try searching Settings. If you haven't completed all the steps you may find you get 'Search results aren't quite ready yet' or similar.

Maybe this will improve in the Anniversary edition.. I hope so, but have seen no comment yet.

If you are struggling with this, I'd suggest you reset the language settings to default, and wait for the anniversary upgrade, rather than spending time trying to fix Cortana or do an in-place upgrade repair, for example, which will reset your language to default.

From looking around this seems to have been a bug introduced in the .10 fix affecting a few.
insiders with the issue have been able to temporarily uninstall that update and it starts working again, until auto update adds it back, those of us on the release version have no choice but to wait

I have my Region/Location set to Canada and my keyboard/language set to English US. Cortana would not work. I got a please install a language I can speak message. Something like that, might not be the exact message. I had to download an install the English Canada "speech' pack. After that Cortana worked. Even with my language set to English US? If you install a second language there is a language pack and a speech pack, you need the speech pack for Cortana to work.
