Windows 10: Windows 10 pro drag and drop

I'm having a problem with drag and drop. If, for example, if I start program WinMerge from a desktop shortcut, I can drag and drop files/directories from the file manager onto the WinMerge window.


But if I start WinMerge from a cmd window like this

"C:\Program Files\WinMerge\WinMergeU.exe"

then drag and drop fails. The same thing happens if I start WinMerge from powerpro a program launcher I've been using since windows XP.


Program 'Foxit Reader' has the same problem. There may be others.

Is drag and drop failing because of WinMerge or because of Windows 10 or because of the file manager? Something else?

What difference does it make how a program starts up?

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.
