Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro key got downgraded to Windows 10 Home - Updating only temporarily solved the...

Hello! I am having the same problem that was frequent in November of 2018: my Windows suddenly thinks it's a Home key, when, instead, the laptop came with a Pro key on it.


I've had this problem repeatedly, but each time, updating seemed to fix the issue, at least until the next time I opened the laptop. It was always the Feature Update 1803, and then the Feature Update 1809. I saw these updates installing at least 3 times. I assumed I didn't go through with all the steps, at first, which makes sense, because yesterday I updated Windows to 1803 and then 1809 again. This time the update worked - I know because it finally put the black theme on my file explorer.


Just like the last times, I had received the activation watermark. But, after updating, the watermark disappeared. I proceeded to work on the laptop, and after a few hours, out of nowhere, while I was playing a game fullscreen, the watermark reappeared.


I have no idea what to do, or if I should do something. I know it's most likely a server activation issue, but is Microsoft aware that this problem persists? I could only find articles and posts from November 2018. I cannot use SLUI 04, it tells me "Can't activate Windows by phone." I have to add that I live in Europe, not the USA.


Should I just wait it out? Thanks for the help!

Thanks but I don't want to do any decrypting. I want to download a Win 10 ISO from Microsoft and install it using my Win 8 key. No other steps required. Is that possible?

I just did a deployment last night with a fresh 10 install using the newest ISO and a 7 Pro key, worked like a charm. Glad yours worked for you as well. *Toast :toast:

 

Clean Windows 10 (?PRO?) install

Hello guys,

I'm planning to get a new graphics card and lets just go ahead and do a clean install aswell. Now I have bought a windows PRO key online and my running OS is windows PRO. Now I want to set up my usb to make a clean install. I wanted to use the windows tool to download the PRO version but its not in the drop down box. I have tried selecting different languages but I still couldn't find it. Now my question is, can I use my pro key on a normal windows 10? If so, my problem is solved. If not, how can I download the pro version from the tool?

Apperently when the install is happening, windows will select the right version depending on the product key version. So PROBLEM SOLVED *Smile
