Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro, No login box appearing, Can sign in to Safe mode.

Dear Team,


We have a Windows 10 Pro 1809 installed on one of our corporate laptops. It has installed through corporate MDT. We removed the Laptop from the domain and used it for another purpose. However, after some days it started showing "Windows needs to activate". We were about to purchase the individual W10 Pro license for this laptop. But all of a sudden it started not giving the login screen or password box when we start the laptop.


I have tried the following remedies to solve the issue,

1. Started to safe mode with networking and signed with the user profile. But after restarting to normal mode no login box again.
2. Restored to an earlier restore point, but still the same issue.
3. Tried with SFC and DISM commands to repair the corrupted files, but unfortunately, none of them has worked

Since it is only possible to login to safe mode, we are not able to connect to the store to activate the windows. The error code from the activation screen is 0*8007007B.


Please help me out if anyone of you has a solution.

Password not accepted in Safe mode

Have you tried all the above steps suggested by Sangeeta Sarkar on September 13, 2015.

I would suggest you to provide some information to help you better.

• Are you trying to login the Microsoft account or the Local account in safe mode?
• Did you try with only safe mode or safe mode with networking?
• What is the critical error you are getting?

If you are using Windows 10. To go to safe mode you have to follow the below steps.

If you are able to go to login screen in normal mode try the below steps to go to safe mode with networking.

• 
  At the login screen click on the power symbol.
  
• 
  Hold SHIFT + Click Restart.
  
• 
  After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.
  
• 
  Select advanced options under
  Troubleshoot screen.
  
• 
  Click on Startup Settings.
  
• 
  Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to
  Safe Mode with networking and check if you are able to login.

No password login box

Hi Helen,

There could be changes made with the settings on your computer that has disabled the option to have users to log in with a username and password. This should be enabled back to get again the login window.

If you're able to login to your system without using the password, please follow these steps to enable the login window during startup:

• Right-click the Windows key and select Run.
• In the Run field, type in control userpasswords2 and hit
  Enter.
• In the User Accounts dialog box, check the box for Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
• Click Apply, then OK.
• Restart your computer and see if you're prompted with the login window.

In case you can't login to your system, please boot your computer in Safe Mode. Check out the link,

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10 and follow the steps in From the sign-in screen. Once you're in Safe Mode, follow the steps above to enable the password prompt. Once done, restart your computer to go back to normal mode.

Login screen and pin-box donot appear

Since, you’re unable to get into the Safe Mode, let’s try to boot the PC into the Windows Recovery Environment.
Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is a recovery environment that can repair common causes of unbootable operating systems.



WinRE starts automatically after detecting the following issues:

• Two consecutive failed attempts to start Windows.
  
• Two consecutive unexpected shutdowns that occur within two minutes of boot completion.
  

If the PC didn’t boot into WinRE yet, power on the machine and once it reaches the login screen, power it off. Repeat this for 3-4 times consecutively.



Once the PC boots into WinRE, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.



While restarting, it’ll give you an option to boot into Safe Mode. Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can login.



If you’re able to login, continue with the steps listed below:

• Press ‘Win + R’ keys on the keyboard to launch the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
  msconfig
  
• Uncheck Safe Boot under Boot
  tab.
  
• Save the changes and restart the normally.
