Windows 10 Pro not booting up at all

So I was downloading a file on my laptop, kept it on with 15% battery left and went out for dinner.

After coming back, the laptop was off due to zero battery. On turning it back on, I'm unable to boot to Windows.

I have an Acer laptop. On booting the Acer logo comes up, I can even access the BIOS, but after that when trying to load Windows I'm just greeted with a black screen.

Can't even see the cursor, even the blue colored Windows logo which comes at the start doesn't show up.

How do I boot into safe mode or recovery?
I guess some drivers would have updated when I was out for dinner.

    Please assist.

    Regards,
    Sharma

    :)

  2. Windows 10 is not booting up at all.

Ever since this morning, after an update, I've been having issues starting up my computer. When I turn it on, it shows the logo of my machine's manufacturer, and then leaves with a black screen. The monitor's on, but nothing is showing up. The Windows logo
does not pop up nor does the circular loading animation, so I can't even get to the log in screen. I managed to start it up once after leaving it be for a while, but when I shut it down again to see if it can start up again, it didn't. Does anyone know what
the solution or reason for this is?

EDIT: My problem has been resolved, turns out there was an issue with the updating process, and troubleshooting seemed to have fixed it. Thanks so much for the advices!

EDIT: And the problem came right back! Keep in mind that the Windows logo will not pop up, even if I started it up 3 times, and there's no way for me to do anything, since it won't allow me to use the keyboard and vice versa. I thought troubleshooting the
update issue seems to have fixed it. But now I don't know what's going on....

Power on and off your computer three times

On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment

    Click Advanced Options

    Click Troubleshoot

    Click Advanced Options

    Click Startup settings

    Click Restart

    • Press (4) to Enable Safe Mode
    • Wait while Windows 10 starts in safe mode.

Uninstall the recent update since you started experiencing this problem.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

    Select the recent update

Right click it then click uninstall.

Try uninstalling the update to see if it restores functionality.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Open View Installed Updates

Right click the recently installed updates since this started happening

    Click uninstall

Restart your computer then check if you can boot to the desktop successfully.

F8 button before windows starts booting should give u the selection of booting options.
Before this, check in bios if your HDD is still alive. Powering off while HDD is busy is not healthy. You can end up with a defective HDD !

How do I check whether the HDD is still alive or not?
I can see the HDD as a booting option in BIOS, does that count?

And I tried pressing F8, nothing happens. I am stuck real bad!

If you can see the HDD in BIOS, it does not mean your drive is healthy but u can see if it is still connected, my fault sorry.
I suspect that it can be defect, as I wrote above, your HDD can get defective when powering off the computer while HDD is busy.
Maybe an option to start your computer from an USB and try to copy files or read files from your HDD.
Another option is to start from windows installation CD/DVD/USB and try to format/install/REPAIR.

U can also listen if u hear strange noise from HDD...

I do not have a Windows installation media available. Can I download the ISO on my phone directly and then create a bootable USB?

I am currently downloading Ubuntu just to boot up and see whether my personal files are accessible or not.

I am unable to pick up any noise from HDD.

Can you please help me on downloading the Windows Recovery ISO without a Windows PC?

U can try acer support if they provide some sort of recovery image.
Try Microsoft website for downloading Windows (ISO).
    Try Google search...

BTW, check acer support for how to trigger (built in) the recovery option, mostly with F2/ESC/F10, this can differ by manufacturer.

Well I just booted up Ubuntu, and I can see my HDD apparitions.
However, I am unable to access them. When trying to open them, this is what comes up. It says that the the NTFS Partition is in an unsafe state and asks me to shutdown Windows correctly.

So it looks like I will somehow get into Windows and do a proper shutdown. After reading I came across that this issue comes up due to a feature called Fast reboot or something like that on Windows.

But the question now is how do I get into Windows?

I don't think Acer will provide support to me anymore as this is a 5 year old laptop which was originally shipped with Windows Vista.
However, can I ask Microsoft support as I have the genuine license and Windows purchased order with me?

Update: I can even mount the partition as read only on my Ubuntu and access the files.
I entered the command sudo mount -o ro /dev/sda1 /mnt and now I can view the files of my first partition.

So the good thing is that at least my data is safe. But how do I boot to Windows? *Sad

I don't think so. Now that I am able to at least view my data, I am quite sure that data is at least present and not lost.

I am also downloading the ISO from Microsoft's website. Does anyone know how do I recover my system from the installation media?

    Finally solved.
Made a bootable USB of Windows 10 and did a system startup repair.
Everything seems fine now. The time got set wrongly though, had to set it up manually. Windows 10 Pro not booting up at all :p
But at least my data is here. *Biggrin

    Thanks.
