  1. Windows 10 Pro only reading 24 GB of 32 GB installed,

Ok so here's what I have done so far. 1) created a bootable USB with Windows 10(64 bit) upgrade 2) installed the upgrade successfully with no issues 3) when I check system info it shows only 24 GB of ram and 16 GB of this is "usable". However when I check the RAM limits on Windows 10 Pro it says 128 GB is the limit. 4) reverted back to 8.1 Pro and the ram shows all 32 GB as installed and usable , so this rules out a bad DIMM. I also checked through Speccy and it shows all 32 GB as installed and operating ( even when I was still running Windows 10 Pro).

So at this point I am totally confused as to what is happening with Windows 10 Pro not addressing all available RAM even though its clearly below the OS's limitations. It seems that there is either a physical addressing problem or the information they have provided as far as RAM limitations is extremely inaccurate.

I am wondering if I am the only person experiencing this issue or have others ran into it , and if so is there a workaround I have not thought of at this point( I have removed and re-seated all the RAM , they are a set of 4 8 GB sticks that came together so they are "paired".

    :)

  3. What's the maximum RAM support for Windows 10 Home Edition and Professional OS

I'm assuming your answer above is not correct anymore. Am I right to assume that? Also, if I have Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit I can upgrade to windows 10 64 bit and have 128GB ram support? I ask because i just purchased ram upgrade today to 24
gb ram and didn't know it wasn't supported by Windows 7 home. So to clarify, Windows 10 Home 64 bit will allow me to have full use of my 24 GB ram upgrade?

How much RAM does each edition of Windows 10 support?

    Edition

    Amount

    Windows 10 Home 32 bit
    4 GBs

    Windows 10 Home 64 bit
    128 GBs

    Windows 10 Pro 32 bit
    4 GBs

    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
    512 GBs

    Windows 10 Enterprise/Education 32 bit
    4 GBs

    Windows 10 Enterprise/Education 64 bit
    512 GBs

Windows 10 Pro only reading 24 GB of 32 GB installed,

Is this a new build? Have you ever run Windows 8.x on it? Did it see all memory? Have you tried re-seating the memory?

I can assure you, the memory limits are accurate, and 32GB is fine with Windows 10 Pro.

What chipset do you have? Have you installed all the necessary drivers?

The "single channel" line is a bit worrying, too. It's as if the machine was only seeing 3 of the 4 DIMMs.

Do they all show up in the BIOS (or UEFI) settings? That would be a check, completely independent of the OS.

  6. I have run 8.1 pro ( also what I am upgrading from) on the machine in question, I also have re-seated all the sticks, reset the bios ,removed any/all overclocks that were inplace, however after I regressed to Win 8.1 Pro all 32 GB are registering. The included screen shots are all while Win 10 Pro was installed and running, Both OS are 64 bit. The RAM DIMMs are dual channel 4x 8 Gb sticks of Gskill Ripjawz running at 1600MHz running on a Gigabyte 970A-D3 motherboard with a AMD 8120 CPU.

Are you using Nvidia's newest 353.62 drivers? It might be possible for bad drivers to take up a large amount of memory.

Are you doing a clean install of Windows 10?

Ok, so after you reverted, did you try the upgrade again?

  9. I am using the updated Nvidia drivers , updated them prior to upgrading , also checked Gigabytes website for any updated system drivers and installed all that were available .

At this time I have not performed the upgrade for a 2nd time. I am currently going through the system to make sure its not in anyway hardware related. I should be finished with this process soon and will post any changes here as soon as I can. Thank you all for your assistance in addressing this matter.

  10. The odd thing is that in the Task Manager shot it shows 'Hardware reserved: 8.0 GB'
I just looked at mine (with 32 GB) and it shows 128 MB just there.
So I'm wondering what could be set to reserve those 8 GB. Some sort of boost/turbo technology being enabled in the bios?

**Edited to add** AMD Turbo Core does this sort of thing.

If you have the memory installed via your processor and it maches what the processor can handle then I would not worry about it and let Microsoft send out an update to fix it. If you have pushed it way over what the processor can handle then I'm not sure what to tell ya. Good luck. There is a reason Intel or your chip maker tells you what the max memory it can handle is. I'm an overclocker, but you have to be reasonable when overclocking. What chip are your running? What does the manufacture state the max memory usage is for that chip?

My mother board will let me run 32 gigs but my processor says it can only handle 16 max. If I wish to go with a different processor then I can take advantage of 32 gigs. What processor are you running? Just because you can put the memory in and run it does not mean it will work for ya. In fact 32 gigs takes more time to boot. What processor are you running?

Windows 10 Pro only reading 24 GB of 32 GB installed,

Sorry I see you are running an AMD 8120. I'm having trouble finding the memory specs for it. I assure you it has specs, LMAO

  14. I know the CPU and Motherboard can support the 32 GB of ram, normally RAM is limited by the motherboards memory controller(memory bus). the 970A-D3 supports up to 32 GB as stated here: GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-970A-D3 (rev. 1.4)
I am in the process of doing a clean install of Win 10(64bit) to see if the clean install exhibits the same behavior as before. The RAM was showing in the bios as stated in the OP I reset bios,re-seated the DIMMS and still had the same issue . It appears for some reason the system is seeing the sticks as single channel instead of dual channel. Hopefully this will be fixed by the clean install. Will post results as soon as I can.

If the clean install has no success then I would try installing the generic AMD chipset Win 10 drivers until Gigabyte release some specific for your board. That's what my money's on as being the cause of the three problems: single channel, 8MB hardware reserved and only 24GB reported.
