Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro transfer to new computer

I just bought a new Dell G7 that came with Windows 10 Home.


I am retiring an Hp 4720s which has Windows 10 Pro. I bought a Retail version of Windows 7 Pro; then took advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it first came available.


Now, I am being told by Microsoft that this license will not transfer to a new machine. Whether I paid $99 for the upgrade or got it free should only be a matter of Microsoft marketing and promotion; I have a hard time believing it impacts the rights of a retail license.


Just a few months ago, I went through a motherboard and hard drive change new CPU chip on a desktop computer that has the same Windows history: I built it new; installed it's own retail version of Win7 pro; took advantage of the free Win10 pro upgrade. When I went to rebuild this computer; I was able to reinstall Windows 10 pro - all that was needed was the Windows 7 product ID to confirm the upgrade eligibility.


Point is: what's the difference between being able to change a motherboard/hard drive - that's effectively a new computer vs. transferring a retail license to a new machine.


If this is true; your licensing agreement is purposely deceptive.


Please confirm whether or not I am able to transfer my laptop license.

transfer files between computers on a home network

I don't know why this is so hard to do but I would like to transfer files between a desktop PC running windows 10 pro and a laptop running windows 10 home. I would like to transfer files in both directions. Both computers are on the same home network and are connected wirelessly.

Could some one provide either specific step by step instructions on how to do this (I googled and found a countless list of instructions that don't work)

or a link to a reference.

I don't know if this is possible but it would be nice to see the computer sending the desired file in the explorer file manager of the computer receiving the desired file and then under the computer see a list
of shared files and folders.

Again, this seems like such a reasonable way of sharing files and folders. Shouldn't there be a simple way to do this?

 

How do I transfer a Windows 10 Pro license from one computer to another?

The preinstalled Windows 10 Pro license on the Surface Pro 3 is not transferable. It is an OEM license.
