Windows 10: Windows 10 Pro update fails w 0x803f8001

I just bought a new HP Omen with Win 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro for another $200 at Best Buy. Trying to activate the update I get an "Unable to Update Your Edition" and an error code of 0x803f8001.


This was after booting to the USB stick, running the install, which said "Install Windows Home" and finishing the setup.


Several hours with tech support including downloading and installing from the iso still leads to same "Unable to Update Your Edition" even after verifying the license key. Tech support finally said the Microsoft verification system was down and ended the call. Still doesn't work today.


Any suggestions?

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

Trying to update apps on Windows Store failed: error 0x803F8001

Hi,

I have Windows 10 build 10240 with all updates installed. When trying to update apps from Windows Store, most of them are successful, but Windows Reading List and Reader fail after "acquiring license".

It says "try that again" and "something went wrong: error 0x803F8001". tried that a bunch of times, but it still says that.

What can i do?
