Windows 10: Windows 10 problems

New here guys, so I'm not sure if this goes here. I recently installed the Windows 10 1511 update on my HP laptop. I realized my Windows Store button doesn't work at all. I press it and nothing happens. When I do the recommended trouble shooting, I get an error that I need an app to open Windows Store. In addition to this, when I try to open any of my saved photos, I get an error saying that PhotoViewer.dll is not installed so the photos won't open. Lastly, I was not able to listen to any music or watch any videos on YouTube, neither would open in any program or browser. I fixed this by installing a Windows Media update from Microsoft.

problems with windows 10 and google chrome

since loading windows 10 i have seen a number of frustrating issues when using google chrome which i have never had before. The most frustrating of these (i have a touch screen laptop) is if i drag the cursor over the screen it resizes either larger or
smaller which is not what i want. Not a techie so whilst i have tried to fix it looking at other issues i have still not been successful - any ideas how i can fix this please?

 

Computer shows blue screen and tells me that atikmdag.sys failed.

Windows 10 stops my computer and then gives me a blue screen. tells me that my atikmdag.sys failed. Have tried MS help but still have this problem. Any suggestion besides throwing away this computer?

Hi I use Windows Photo Viewer to view my photo/pic

If you want to view photos using Windows Photo Viewer please follow the steps below:



1) Right click the photo you want to open/view.

2) Select open with option, you will be able to see the Windows Photo Viewer as a option to select.

3) you may click on Windows Photo Viewer if you want to use it once.



If you want the photos to get open with Windows Photo Viewer always select choose default program option then click on Windows Photo Viewer.

 

He's not asking how to view a photo, he said in his post that when he tries to open photos he gets an error message saying that PhotoViewer.dll isn't installed.

If a Dynamic Link Library (DLL) isn't installed, especially from Windows own integrated applications, your best bet is to follow the link NavyLCDR posted and do a repair install.

Take NavyLCDR advice. Your best chance to get a proper running Windows 10.

 

PhotoViewer was the old Windows 7 app which they removed in Windows 10. 10 comes with a new photo viewer which is fine for just viewing photos. Type "photos" in the search bar and it should come up. You can pin this to the taskbar if you use it frequently.

What app are you trying to install from the store?

Also, I wouldn't go doing repair install as mentioned above just yet, it might cause more problems that it solves.

 

They didn't remove the Windows 7 version of Photo Viewer, they just added a 'newer' metro app version called Photos, you can still view photos using the old viewer which I still use. It's been said twice now but whenever he's trying to open photos hes getting a missing DLL error. That, coupled with the fact he can't even open Windows Store implies that important system files and DLL's are missing, which is exactly what a repair install will fix by replacing missing or corrupted system files.

 

This code/reg hack was posted and it lets you use the old photo viewer:

You don't even have to do anything like that. Just right click on the photo you want to view, choose Open With>Windows Photo Viewer. Like I said in my previous post, the Windows 7 photo viewer is still there, it hasn't been removed at all, and you certainly don't need any registry hacks to use it.

 

When you upgrade from 7 to 10 that's left over but when you do a clean install of 10 the hack is needed.

 

Mine doesn't have an entry for Windows Photo viewer, just says Photos which is a Store app.

 

If you use the registry hack I posted it will show up. I used that when I did a clean instillation of 10.
