Windows 10: Windows 10 Product Key is missing

I'm having a big problem rebooting Windows 10 on another PC. It keeps cycling through the Windows repair service, and claims to not be able to repair the installation. Upon looking deeper into the problem, it appears that there are a few situations that may be causing the problem, though I am not sure. When I try to find the SrtTrail.txt file to diagnose the problem, the Srt directory is missing in the C:\windows\system32\logfiles directory. Also, when I try to recover through system restore, it will not do it. None of the suggested repairs work. So,


I tried the following:


Bootrec /ScanOs

This returns 0 for Windows Installations

Bootrec /fixmbr

Returns successful

Bootrec /fixboot

This returns "Access denied"

Bootrec /rebuildbcd

Does nothing but return the command argument list for Bootrec

This prompted me to reload Windows10, but I do not seem to have a record of what the product key for the impacted PC is. So, I tried to fiind it through the command prompt. I tried to find the Windows10 product key (downloaded version) through the two methods that I found, neither one returned anything useful.


Method 1:

On the affected machine, in the wmic service at wmic:root\cli>, typing "os get serialnumber" only returns:

SerialNumber


Typing the same string into an unaffected machine (also a downloaded version of Windows10) returns a number like:

xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx.


Method 2:

Command "wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey" returns:

ERROR:

Description = Not found


In the unaffected machine, the same command simply returns:OA3xOriginalProductKey

It would seem as though the afflicted machine now has no product key. How can I find or recover this important number so that I can reinstall Windows10?

Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.

Thanks but I don't want to do any decrypting. I want to download a Win 10 ISO from Microsoft and install it using my Win 8 key. No other steps required. Is that possible?

Since the laptop has no battery compartment wherein the product key is usually located, we recommend that you follow these steps to find your Windows product key:

• Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Enter this command: wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
  and hit Enter.
