Guys, I understand they're supposed to be combined (with Home and Pro) into a single ISO.

I'm telling you... It doesn't work. I boot from my USB, select my language, and then it says "Setup is starting". Then it goes to that screen where I can select an upgrade or custom (advance) install. I'm at wits end. What can I do?

If you are trying to do an upgrade don't boot from the ISO. You should mount the ISO (by double clicking on it) from inside Windows then click on setup.exe.

If you are trying to do a clean install then boot from it and take the custom (advance) install option you mention.

Windows 10 Professional isn't on the Media Creation Tool?

Or select both when using Media Creation Tool. You will get an ISO with both 32 and 64 bit each containing both Home and Pro.

Note: The combined ISO with both 32 and 64 bit will NOT fit on a single layer DVD (4.7 GB). Should work on dual layer DVD (8.5 GB) although I have not tried this. Works great on a 8 GB USB flash drive.

Uncheck "Use the recommended options for this PC" and then choose Both.

Do you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1/10 product key?

If you have an OEM computer with UEFI firmware (BIOS) embedded Windows 8/8.1/10 product key, the Windows 10 November Update (build 10586) installer should automatically detect product key from UEFI firmware (BIOS) and you will be taken straight to the License Agreement screen.

When installing Windows 10 November Update (build 10586), the Windows installer uses the following priority logic for product keys:
1. Answer file (Unattended file, EI.cfg, or PID.txt).
2. Product key in the UEFI firmware (BIOS).
3. Product key entry screen.
If a key is supplied, the key is attempted to be use with the image that are available on the media being installed. If there is no product key supplied in the step 1 and step 2, you will get the product key prompt during setup.

Option 1:

If you want to choose which one will be installed (see screenshot below).

Copy the ei.cfg file to the sources folder on the USB flash drive.

EI.CFG

Code: [Channel] _Default [VL] 0
Before creating the "ei.cfg" file make sure its not "ei.cfg.txt", it must be "ei.cfg".

Option 2:

Use a PID.txt in sources folder to automate product key entry.

PID.TXT

Code: [PID] Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Place your Windows 8/8.1/10 key in where the X's are and copy the PID.txt file to the sources folder on the USB flash drive.

6. I did a clean install on my wife's laptop with a blank hard drive. 10 Home was installed by default with no prompt to chose edition or enter a key. It read and used the OEM Windows 8.0 Core embedded key. It was running 10 Pro before I wiped the drive. I just entered the 10 Pro generic key via the change product code option and it upgraded to 10 Pro and activated fine. Now it has a digital entitlement for 10 Home and 10 Pro. As genet posted, I usually use a PID.txt file with the 10 Pro generic key. Saves having to select Pro and having to skip entering a key. This time I didn't just to see what would happen. Testing purposes.

Yes, my laptop can activate both Windows 10 Home AND Pro.

This is so stupid. Why did Microsoft complicate things?

8. Windows 10 Professional isn't on the Media Creation Tool?

All depends on how you look at it. On the one hand it makes it easier. You don't have to know what your embedded key is or what OS version its for. The install media sorts it out and installs the matching version. Windows 8/8.1 MSDN ISO's work the same way. As far as I know my MSDN ISO's are identical to retail DVD's. The old MCT downloads were Home or Pro, not Home and Pro. Now they are like my MSDN ISO's, multi edition. In the past if I used the Pro only MCT download it would just ignore my OEM Core key and prompt for one. Now with the multi edition, there is no prompt if an OEM key is detected. Adding a PID.txt file with the pro generic key will fix it and install pro by default. It's what I do. No having to click skip for key entry as it won't ask for one. If that PC has a digital entitlement for 10 Pro it will activate automatically with no issues.

It does. It has one for Home and Pro. But the user should be able to choose which OS they want to install...

I used it to upgrade my SP3 Lappy from 10240 to 10586 with no hitches whatsoever, via USB. Choice I got on download to USB was "Windows 10", no suffixes except "one for "N", whatever that is. Like John said, at install time it decides home or pro. You can also download choosing "other operating system", and when it gets to the point of asking for a blank DVD, just tell it to shutup, finish, and you'll have a full ISO to do with as you please.

I did both.....

Thanks for the info.

Windows N is a special edition for Europe. It doesn't have some preinstalled programs like Internet Explorer or Windows Media Player. It was created following an antitrust case against Microsoft by the EU.

12. I do all my installs from USB Thumb drives. I've never had an issue doing it that way. I just use diskpart to set them up as bootable etc.

On a clean install, where there is no embedded key, you'll get a choice. I agree though. Having it prompt that it detected one, but giving you the option to change it might be better.

14. And btw the last so called "fall update" doesnt seem to be included in the official iso. What should I do to avoid to download it for each computer I have?

15. The ISO you get with the Media Creation Tool is 10586, it is the fall update. Same deal with MSDN, new ISO's there too. There is one small update you'll get via Windows update that takes it from 10586.0 to 10586.3, but its just a small security update.
