Windows 10: Windows 10 randomly freezes since 1803 update

Before 1803 update I never had any freezing problem. But after that laptop started to freeze randomly, usually after working a few hours. Then I could not reset it and sent it to the service. They could not find any problem but reset the laptop (formatted) to version 1607. After making all of the updates (including 1803) I started to get the freeze again.


I believe I see a couple of indications before the freeze.


1. Taskbar starts to have problems. I experienced search box not clickable showed glitches, some windows appeared and disappeared couple times (not always)

2. Always, before the freeze, I see power icon shows wrong value. When I hover shows less than 100% ( 21% above picture) and when clicked shows different but bigger value (99% above picture), while plugged in. However, both value should show 100% because I always use the laptop plugged in.


I use two additional monitors and wireless keyboard and mouse and have a relatively new laptop. Since this is a work laptop I only install necessary programs like Office, Visual Studio 2017, SQL Server. I also use hibernation mode.


Sending laptop to service did not solve the problem. What should I do to fix the problem, any suggestions?

I had already tried turning off fast startup, to no avail.
Will look at the list you provided, thanks. Hard to do when computer freezes on the Windows loading screen though. *Biggrin

• Which is the last Windows update build you've applied to the computer?
• Are there any third party applications that are currently installed?

• Check the motherboard manufacturer's website to find the specific model of your motherboard.
• Go to the computer manufacturer's website.
• Look for the computer model that you're using.
• You should find any available BIOS update.
