Windows 10: Windows 10 randomly hangs and becomes unresponsive, Task Manager and Ctrl Alt Delete don't...

Hey guys, I've been doing lots of research but unfortunately I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem. I recently built a new PC and while it runs well almost 99% of the time, there are times when all the applications on screen will just freeze.

When this happens the mouse can still move around, but all apps will be unresponsive when clicked and the keyboard inputs have no effect either. Trying to open task manager via Ctrl+Shift+Esc won't work (if it's already open, it can't be clicked) and neither does Ctrl+Alt+Delete do anything. Despite this, I know that some of the apps continue to run in the background - for example, if I'm in a Discord call, I'll still continue to be in it, hearing my friends and transmitting my voice perfectly fine. However, Discord won't be clickable on screen, and there won't be any visual changes (I can tell this as the flashing green ring from when you transmit audio won't flash). I'm unable to do anything except force a restart by using the reset button on my case. There doesn't seem to be any regularity to when this issue occurs, other than when I'm actually doing something on the PC.

I've already ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it reported no issues. I've installed the latest CPU and GPU drivers as well. The OS is up to date (Version 20H2, OS Build 19042.789). This is the only issue that's affecting my PC which I'm otherwise very happy with, and it's unfortunately a bit frustrating as I can't find any useful information online to help me troubleshoot and fix the problem. Could anyone here please help?

Ctrl Alt Del, Vista

On a domain you won't get Task Manager when you hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. You get a crazy screen with a bunch of options.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc has always brought up just the Task Manager, even back to Windows XP days. You just weren't aware of it. *Wink

Go ahead, try it in Windows XP too.

The whole Ctrl+Shift+Esc should be used to get that crazy screen with those options and Ctrl+Alt+Del should bring up TM.

 

Disable Task Manager on lock screen when I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete

Hi,

I'm currently using the Windows 10 Pro 1803, and I have some question about disabling task manager on lock screen when I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

I tried to edit Local Group Policy(Remove Task Manager) to disable it, but the result is blocking all way to access Task Manager. that was out of my intention.

The thing that I want is:

1. The task manager can be used.

2. But the task manager doesn't allow to access by using Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

Is there any way to block the task manager button on lock screen when I press Ctrl + Alt + Delete?
