Windows 10: Windows 10 randomly shuts down programs immediately after opening

Hi,



I am running Windows 10 Pro 1909 10.0.18363.900 64-bit.



When opening a program, some seem to open correctly at first, but then hang and immediately shut down; there are no error messages. Some apps work fine though. Crashing apps so far are: Notepad, Acrobat Pro, System maintenance troubleshooter in control Panel, Edge, Directory Opus, Todoist, Wordpad and even the Windows Media Creation tool.

Others work fine, like Word, Outlook, Chrome, File explorer, Spotify, etc.

I can see the dump files in \AppData\Local\CrashDumps

I’m running Norton 360 as anti-virus, but a full scan did not detect any issues.



Please note that I have tried the following:

System file check SFC Scan and Repair System Files & DISM as per https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...em-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

My first SFC gave me the following:

“Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.

For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.”

I then ran DISM, Scanhealth & Restorehealth: “No component store corruption detected. The operation completed successfully. / The restore operation completed successfully. The operation completed successfully.”

Then SFC again “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.”



All my drivers are up to date, my chipset driver AMD 2.04.28.626 and BIOS Assus Version 2103 are the latest version, and all programs have been updated.


I have not made any changes to my system settings or added/deleted software that could explain this erratic behaviour.

I really do not want to do a clean install of Windows.


Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Laptop randomly shuts down after latest Windows 10 update

Since the latest update of Windows 10 my computer decides to randomly shut down after every couple of minutes. First the screen goes black, then the sounds stops and after quite a while the power also goes down.

Obviously I though of cleaning the fan with a big vacuum, as suggested on My Windows 10 Computer Randomly Shuts Down . However, after doing this, the shutting down goes even quicker. I cannot even properly log-on before the shutdown takes place.

What should be my next step?

Ps. The computer is quited aged (roughly 3 - 4 years). The battery is dead enough such that I always need to have it plugged in an outlet. It might just be "done for" but I'm hoping to revive it for just a little bit more.

 

Menu shuts down


At the far bottom left corner of the desktop is the Windows 10 logo. When clicked by mouse, a menu screen and a search bar opens

On my computer the menu most often opens and immediately closes. There is not enough time to allow me to access any 3rd party programs on the menu or to employ the listed Windows 10 apps including restart and power down.

Suggestions to correct this problem are appreciated.

 

Windows 10 Randomly Shutting down

My PC keeps shutting down randomly. This is happening after the 1903 may 2019 update .

Sometimes it shuts down immediately after booting and sometimes it stays on for more than an hour, and sometimes it stays on.

If I it shuts down while I'm using Microsoft word or something ... then it says ' some programs are still running,shut down anyway? ', the i just click cancel and everything goes back to normal for a while

I tried startup diagnostics , tried disabling fast startup, removing and then reinserting the RAM , plugging it into a different power outlet

NOTE: Before it shuts down .. the search option in the taskbar just pops up always
