Windows 10: Windows 10 read external drive but won't play music files

Plugged my external drive into new computer. It immediately recognized drive and I can open all files except music files, they say I don't have permission. Through a little online research, I have taken back permission and see all the songs in the file now, but windows 10 will not play them regardless of which player I try to use. windows media player, groove music or vlc media player I get an error message every time on all players. There are several factors that can cause your external drive to not read DVDs even though the system is recognizing the device. This could be caused by a driver that needs to updated or corrupted files. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions

• Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
• Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
• Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

Playing music from external hard drive on computer

I copied all my music to an external Toshiba hard drive. When trying to play the songs get WMP message that says "WMP cannot find file...". All music is still in WMP and can play from there but not from external drive. How can this be fixed?
