  1. Windows 10 recovery partition issue

    Hello to everyone,

I have UEFI based laptop HP Envy 17J015SR.

I wanted to install Windows 7 and Windows 10 to my laptop in order to use advantages of both systems.

I have both operating systems license and i have created installation drives for both sustems separately by using RuFus application.

As my laptop BIOS has UEFI firmware i created both systems for GPT structure and i i understa that in order to boot windows 7 i will need to enable legacy support.

    It is OK for me.

But i have one concern. I will clean install these systems. Which system should i install first? I read on internet that older system in my case windows 7 x64 better to install first. But in this case it creates 100 mb system partition and when i install windows 10 by having windows 7 installed already, recovery partition 529mb not created.

But when i install windows 10 first , then all these partitions MSR,Recovery and system are created normally and then i can install windows 7 over windows 10 without any problem.

Thus if i install 1 windows 10 then 2 windows 7 i have all partitions on my system disk. I have only 1 HDD and i install those systems to different partitions of that HDD by the way i read different documents on internet and know how to do all these steps

My question is can i install windows 10 first then windows 7? Or which option is better? Does it matter? Will i have problems in a future because of installation order? Also i heard that there should have at least 500mb system partition for windows 10 however i have only 100mb which is normal for windows 7? Is it critical?

    :)

    Download Windows 10 TH/RS

For the convenience of not having to use the installation media for startup repairs. But you should be able to use your installation media to do whatever the recovery partition does(including startup repairs). AFAIK. I could be wrong about that though.
I'm not sure if I follow you there. But if you clean install Windows 10 there will be at least 3 partitions.
    • (EFI System Partition)
    • (Primary Partition)
    • (Recovery/OEM Partition)
If you install from an OEM installation media there might(should?) be 4 partitions. Since there might(should?) be a Recovery partition and an OEM partition.

    Lost recovery partition

Hello, I see that you are having issues with recovery partition. I would suggest you using the diskpart command in the command prompt. First, open up the comand prompt as an administrator, then type in diskpart. Now, type in list disk, and look for the
recovery partition drive. Follow the steps in the link below:

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have further questions! Windows 10 recovery partition issue :)

    Windows 10 recovery partition issue

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
