For quite some time my Windows 10 installation keeps crashing. i.e. the mouse pointer freezes and then thats it. No screen of death. No nothing. Just a frozen screen. I want to diagnose the problem but all drivers are up to date and I can't see how to fix it.Any help on how to diagnose would be great.Processor - IntelR CoreTM i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz 2.93 GHzRAM 6GB64 bit processorGraphics - GeForce GTX 460

Windows 10 power issues and freezing

Apology ahead of time if this problem is in the wrong category, I did not know if it should go into power & sleep or system failures as I am experiencing both, please direct me on that if you could.

Hello, I have a problem that has been driving me crazy for the past two weeks or so and I can not seem to find any answers online. My Windows 10 pc is randomly freezing at startup sometimes and having other power issues that I will outline below.

    Hardware

    • OS: Windows 10 Home v1903
    • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @2.67 GHz 2.67 GHz
    • Installed RAM: 12.0 GB
    • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 720Ti
    Issues

    • Randomly freezes sometimes up to a minute after windows 10 desktop loads, if it gets past that initial time frame it will work for the entire run time until next boot
    • Sleep mode does not function, the computer will act as if in sleep mode shutting off displays but will power down and restart when I try to wake with a mouse or keyboard
    • Shutting down sometimes causes the computer to restart instead of just shutting down
Troubleshooting I have performed already (they didn't help so please don't suggest them)

    • Run Windows troubleshooting tool in all categories
    • Run Windows defender scan
    • Run Windows check for updates
    • Unplugging all USB ports and restarting PC
    • Restarted PC
    • Run a disk check on all hard drives
    • Optimized all hard drives
    • Performed a memory check
    • Disabled all startup programs
    • Changed power settings to different plans and set hard drive to never turn off and PCI-E power-saving settings to off
    • Restored Windows 10 from the settings app
    • Restored Windows 10 from recovery disk drive
    • Performed a driver stress test
    • Run in safe mode(It did not freeze but still had the power problems I mentioned above)
All of my software and hardware tests have turned up good so I am at a loss for this problem. If you have any suggestions or guesses for solving this problem please help me out.

  3. Power Service causes Hard System Freeze on Windows 10

I have been dealing with this problem since August of 2016 with the release of the Anniversary Upgrade. My system does a hard freeze within a range of a few seconds to 5 minutes if I have the Windows 10 Power Service running. Once the system freezes,
it must be powered down and restarted. If I disable the Power Service through services.msc, the computer runs indefinitely without freezing. I've had it run for more than a week with the Power Service disabled. I have done all the troubleshooting I can
think of. SFC /scannow and DISM Checkhealth show no problems. Clean boot freezes because the Power Service remains enabled. Safe Mode succeeds because the Power Service is disabled. I have researched this and tested for 5 months and the only way I can
keep my PC running is to disable the Power Service. RAM has been tested with the latest version of Memtest86 and the freezes occur with my NVidia board as well as the Intel internal video. My system is a Windows 10 version 1607 home brew with an ASRock Z170
OC Formula motherboard, an i7-6700K CPU, 16 GB G. Skills TridentZ DDR4 RAM, 256GB Samsung SM-951 AHCI SSD, 2 WDC-WD10EZEX 1 TB drives in RAID 1, and EVGA GeForce GTX 960 Video Card. I have the latest NVidia drivers. All my drivers are up to date.

I have read about hard freezes reported on a few systems with an SSD boot drive and an HD for data storage, but there are no reliable solutions reported and there is no indication that any of those freezes are related to the Power Service. My hard freezes
are 100% reproducible and controllable by toggling the Power Service. Any suggestions or enlightenments would be appreciated.
