Windows 10: Windows 10 reinstall

After the free upgrade how do i reinstall windows 10?

I got windows 10 pro 64 as the free upgrade and i did the upgrade not the clean install as I just formatted my hard drive with windows 7 ultimate 64 no biggy right?

OK, so i figured it out myself

Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

 

Hi ... Did you first upgrade from 7 to 10 ? Because you need to upgrade the system first before you can do anything when it comes to reinstalling . So did you ?

 

Upgrade system? As in update in windows update?

 

I upgraded from 7 ultimate 64

 

If you upgraded from 7 to 10, and activated. On a clean install, just click skip when prompted to enter a product code. It should activate when done. It did for me. Upgrade refers to an upgrade install versus a clean install.

 

So doing a reinstall of windows 10 will be the same assuming I did a format and reinstall like windows 7 when you boot from DVD?

 

Pretty much. boot from your install media and follow the prompts. Chose custom install and you can delete, create, and format partitions.

Last question, I downloaded the windows 10 64 bit iso but does it auto detect that I have windows 10 pro?

 

Depends on which ISO you downloaded. Did you download the Windows 10 Pro ISO? That's all that will be in the ISO is Windows 10 Pro.

 

I downloaded it from Microsoft site and it said nothing of pro all it had was windows 10, n, nk, 1 language

 

The MSDN ISO's are multi edition, Home and Pro. What gets installed depends on what product code is entered. It is for Windows 8.1 anyway. I haven't booted from my Windows 10 ISO to see its menu. You may get a menu asking you to select Home or Pro. Are you are going to try and do the free upgrade with it or just clean install with it. You do know what N and NK mean right? Missing Media Player, etc. Are you sure that was an official Microsoft site?

The Microsoft site says the ISOs contain,, among other things:

• 2 Tech Bench Scripts
• Steps for Creating an installation USB stick

I expect the scripts will allow you to create a Home (not Pro) or Pro version.
I'm downloading them now just to take a look.
