    Windows 10 Repair Install Error 0x80070570 - 0x2000C

The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation.

So, I want to do a repair install. Have tried many times and keeping getting this error.

I have run sfc /scannow, and Dism, both report no errors.

I have searched here, and tried the install using English and English International ISOs (extracted). Both report the same error. It appears on the first reboot, about 2% into the install.

The install is onto a SSD, which was migrated (a few months ago), using Paragon Hard Disk Manager.

Look forward to your replies, thanks in advance.

    :)

  4. Windows 10 Repair Install Error 0x80070570 - 0x2000C

Just spent 3 hours with MS support.
They tried everything I had already tried and more - their conclusion is to do a complete fresh install!
When I queried the activation question - the guy told me that a clean install from within Windows (already activated), will keep the activation with the new install.
Not sure I am ready to do a clean install yet, will need a full day to put everything back on!

Will a refresh work do you think?

What's the machine specs and history, lafargeotte?

That is: what did you have on the ?machine before the implied upgrade to Windows 10?

  6. The machine was upgraded from Win 8.1 when Win 10 went RTM - and it runs just fine.
However, some time ago I uninstalled some Store Apps. Recently went to the store, found that I could not update or download any apps. This is no big deal as I don't use the Store often.
Anyway, tried all the solutions found here, elsewhere and by MS, none worked. Last resort was to do the Repair Install.
I have a number of system images going back three months or more, unfortunately it seems that the problem is older than my images!
    So here I am.
Because I don't use the store that much I am reluctant to go for a fresh install, as I have so many programs, it would take a long time to get them back installed again.
My Win 10 runs very well, and the store thing is very minor for me.
So do I leave it, and see if the next major Win 10 update fixes it.

Thanks for filling in the blanks.

I don't think there'd be much benefit in a reset or refresh or repair install if all is running well and you can live with the Store App being unusable. Many useful Windows Store Apps may be obtained via the internet anyway.

All I'd do is temporarily disable Trend Micro, and any other 3rd party security applications, switching to Windows Defender, reset Windows update, check for updates, and verify the Microsoft Account you use, regarding the Windows Store - then see if the Store will update and work. Then return security to the way you want it. When available, try an upgrade at the next opportunity (disabling the security before the UG.)

Some systems upgrade ok, but find that clean installs are problematic. I believe that the Windows 10 Preinstallation Environment (Win10PE) is equipped with a set of basic drivers which exclude some hardware combinations and fail during setup, or leave the installation in an unstable state.

I always install like a dual boot where possible, installing from a running windows system to an unallocated space on the hard disk, or to an empty partition. This allows the first part of setup to upgrade to drivers suitable for the system, because the host OS runs the system appraisal, and prepares the setup to run the best set of drivers.

Another thing which may be beneficial is to disable all internet access during setup, and to allow all updates post-installation. Yet another helpful tactic is to make sure that the system keeps as cool as possible during the setup process, to prevent throttling of the processor cores if they become heat-stressed during setup.

  8. Windows 10 Repair Install Error 0x80070570 - 0x2000C

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

All those things you suggest I have tried, except for disabling the internet during setup.

However, you may be right, and wait until the next upgrade in a few months. All my previous upgrades/updates have gone without a problem.

I will still keep researching a little, as I like to sort out these problems if at all possible!

  9. Thought I would try a clean install from within Windows. Still does not work, ends exactly the same with the same error!

So did a clean install from boot via USB stick. Installed and activated no problem.
However, I do not have the time at the moment to reinstall and customise everything else. So I restored to the image I took just before the install.

It does make me wonder though where the problem lies with the repair install!

  10. Just a quick update.

Did a clean install, no problem. Activated OK.
Took best part of 2 days to reinstall programs and customise as before.

Never solved the original problem - hope it does not return!

  11. Well, here we go again.

Using unpacked ISO x64 15063 to upgrade from up to date 14393, and end up with the same result/error, after 1st reboot at 1%!!!!

Have run sfc /scannow and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, and both do not find any errors.

    Any suggestions?

  12. Just to add I do not have a system reserved partition, would that make a difference?
