Windows 10: windows 10 requesting password when none has been setup

I have a windows 10 upgraded from windows7 asking for a password to get past the login screenI have never setup a password on this machineIt is a local machine.I have spoken to 5 different tech support people but they say this is not repairable.Their response is to do a clean install, that is a not a repair.The have basically told me I am on my own.terrible tech support.any ideas to assist me?Thanks

Cortana Setup Failure

I open Microsoft Edge and am presented with the opportunity to setup. I proceed to step 2 which is Cortana. I sign in with my Microsoft ID and password and am presented with a request for another password (supposedly an old password). If the screen doesn't
lock up, I enter my password again and am told that it isn't any good. So ----- I am unable to setup Cortana or proceed beyond that step.

Any suggestions?
