Windows 10: Windows 10 requires activation

A few days ago, I discovered that I could no longer open Outlook, Excel and Word in Office Home and Business 2013. I was advised by Microsoft my Office was old and not supported any more, and that I should upgrade to Office 365 or Office 2019, which I did. I was also instructed to delete the existing 2013 version.


Apparently the download of 365 worked, but I am unable to open them.


Microsoft advised me that this was because my Windows 10 requires activation. I advised them that I had a computer built some time ago, and at the time I purchased a retail version of Windows 8 Pro, which was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for free by Microsoft. So for many years it was activated and worked well, but now requires activation. The only key I have is the Windows 8 key - but it doesn't work.


Have tried many times to contact Microsoft, including after long wait times, I get put through closed call centres. My latest experience is being on hold for 89 minutes and then being disconnected.


So currently, I have no Outlook, Excel, Word, which apparently I didn't need to delete, I am out of pocket for Office 365, which I didn't need to buy, a fully paid for version of Windows that can't be activated, consumed about 15 hours of my time on this, and I can't get through to Microsoft!!!


Does anyone have a solution to this?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 Activation (Insider)

This kinda sucks. However, if one is upgrading from a retail W7/8, then it should activate on different hardware, with possible phone activation required if it's been over 120 days or whatever the timeout period is now since the last activation. Remember to erase the copy on the old hardware, of course.
