  1. Windows 10 reserved VRAM

My in game graphics settings indicate that Windows has reserved 532 MB of VRAM that is now inaccessible to the game. Since it's a primarily gaming computer I'd like to maximize the amount of available VRAM for the game. Does Windows really need .5 GB of VRAM to do very very little in the background, and is there any way to change how this operates? It's very annoying considering I bought a less powerful GPU on the assumption that I'd be able to utilize all of it?

    :)

  2. VRam reserved and unavailable with Windows 10

    Hi,

This is not exactly an issue relating to gaming, but maybe yes.

I'm using a 3D render engine (Octane) and I'm facing a VRam limitation due to Windows 10. I'm using GTX 1070 cards and from the 8Gb available on such Nvidia models, 1.4 GB are reserved by Windows and cannot be used by the rendering application.

Do you also have to face that situation when using your games ? And if so, have you find any workaround to prevent Windows from reserving a part of the VRam ?

    Thanks for your feedback

  3. Improved VRAM usage in Win 10 2004

In Win 10 1909, it appeared that ~20% of the VRAM on your video card was reserved for the OS. In 2004, it seems that the reserved VRAM is now a fixed 900 MB. An 11 GB card shows 10.1 available and an 8 GB card shows 7.1 available. Can anyone else confirm this, especially for cards VRAM<8GB and VRAM>11GB? nVidia Titan cards have always had the option available to change this amount of VRAM reserved by Windows 10, but GTX and RTX have not. I'm running Win 10 Pro 2004.

VRam reserved and unavailable with Windows 10

Hi Enrico. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

Have you checked your UEFI firmware Settings to see if this is adjustable there? Since this is where it's normally set, you can study the motherboard manual on the manufacturer's Support Downloads web page and contact their Support if needed:
