Windows 10: Windows 10 reset - activation gone

Had to reset my machine 2x over the past week due to hardware issues, first reset went ok Windows 10 Home activation wise, it confirmed Windows as activated immediately.

After the 2nd reset it did not confirm Windows product key, but an error code. Ran troubleshooter, entered my product key again to no avail, still showing "We weren't activate Windows on this device". T

I am more than annoyed, I had this version of Windows with the same key for years, and reset / refreshed probably 4 times in that span without a hitch.

Any advice what to do next?

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
