    Windows 10 Reset?

Hey, i'm new to this forum and i have no idea if i'm posting this in the right section, but i got one simple question and i really haven't been able to find an answer to this. My question is i bought my pc with windows 8 then windows 8.1 came out etc so i updated to that. Windows 10 came then and i upgraded to that also. I'm thinking on doing a full reset of my pc soon and i am wondering that if i decide to reset after windows 10 is not free anymore, will i still be able to get back to it since i updated before?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

When i decide to reset, do i have to go back to windows 8 and then update to windows 10 from there or can i just reset to windows 10?

No need to go back to windows you updated from as long as W10 was activated on same MB.

I just did this Windows 10 reset when I had to change the motherboard. I did the reset and got the not activated, called Phone support and the guy said to input the windows 7 key and once I did it activated fine...Went from AMD to Intel.

    Windows 10 Reset?

Not quite what the OP questioned but anyway, off topic, why sway from AMD... Intel, IMHO, is best for laptops for low power usage - desktops not so much?

No idea what AMD vs. Intel has to do with activation. It's tied to MB and that's all.

When you say reset, do you mean select the reset option within Windows 10? I would do something else. Check that you definitely are activated. Make backups of all your files - documents, pictures, music, videos, download file, export bookmarks to html and back up that file. Which is something you normally do anyway. When everything is backed up, burn a disc of Windows 10 ISO for the correct product you currently run (ie Home or Professional, 32 bit or 64 bit).

Then do a clean install of Windows 10. I found my machine worked way better after a clean install than a reset. You get a nice new squeaky clean install and just put your antivirus back on and copy your files back.

Unless - are you saying you might want the option to go back to Windows 8.1? Unless you made a System image, or have recovery disks made for Windows 8, before upgrading to Windows 10 that probably isn't possible now (unless you installed Windows 8 from a retail disk). If you do have recovery disks, a system image and a Windows 8 repair disk, then it's win win really. You get a nice clean install of Windows 10 and can reinstall Windows 8 in the future if you want. (The same product key/activation is used for Windows 10 and the original Windows 8 though and it could be fiddly getting Windows 8 activated again.
