Windows 10: Windows 10 Restoring Desktop Location

Hello, I accidentally moved all the files on my Desktop to a local drive D:\. So my laptop has limited C:\ drive and I'm running out of space, so I was hoping that the Desktop was moved to a folder called Desktop in D:\ but accidentally I moved all files to the folder D:\ itself. Now I'm trying to restore everything back, but there are many other files in D:\ that I don't want to put on my Dekstop. What can I do? I can only restore the location if I pick no to the option of moving all files. If I pick yes, I think the system will try to move everything from D:\ it encounters an error. Please h

Desktop is missing

Brink, thank you for your reply and suggestion. I ran the .bat file, rebooted and it did not fix my issue. *Sad

 

Cannot move desktop to a new location in Windows 7

I've been trying to move the desktop location on a machine that runs Windows 7.

On my own machine (Windows 10), there's a "Location" tab in the desktop properties.

That tab is missing on the machine that runs Windows 7.

I came across the suggestion below in other threads, but it is not working for me. Any other suggestions on how to change to location or how to get the location tab to show?

1. Open the Registry editor (Regedit.exe)
2. Browse to the location:
   
   HKCU > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Explorer > User Shell Folders.
3. In the right window pane select the required value (i.e. Desktop).
4. Insert the new location for the folder to be stored.
5. Close the registry editor and log off
   
   --> Didn't work.

 

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.
