    Windows 10 Right Click Makes File Explorer Hang


    Due to lack of space, I only managed to clear enough space to do the Windows 10 update last night. But today, the file explorer shortcut in the taskbar doesn't work, and when i right click an app in file explorer or desktop, the explorer hangs and I have to close it. I've tried restarting and replacing the shortcut but it doesn't work. Help?

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    File explorer hangs

    Sorry I got nothing more to suggest then.

    File explorer hanging is an image issue. So if you can't do a repair upgrade or reset your PC then you can contact microsoft support directly to see if they have further steps but I am sure they are going to tell the same thing i did.

    • When was the last time right-click on File explorer works fine?
    A: Never, I belive it has been like this since I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.


    • Did you make any changes prior to this issue?
    A: No, it started doing this ever since I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10.

    • Are you getting any error message when you right-click on File explorer?
    A: No error messages.

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
    A: Nothing, I don't know how to fix it.
