Windows 10: Windows 10 "Safely Remove Hardware & Eject Media" stopped working for all any any USB device?

Windows 10 Home 64 bit
Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363

This has suddenly stated to happen - no matter what USB device I plug in to any USB port, USB Stick, USB Audio Interface, USB Headphones, USB Hard Drives, the Safely Remove Hardware & Eject Media has stopped working.

By this I mean when you hover a mouse icon over it the normal popup message is not displayed and when you click on it nothing happens at all. Also when you plug a new USB device into the laptop windows no longer make the pinging sound.

I should say that anything I plug in works as expected except when I want to disconnect sid device I have to restart the machine and whip the USB device out as the laptop reboots.

I have tested all of my USB devices in two other machines A laptop & a PC and they all work fine and can be ejected by the "Safely Remove" icon on those machines.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Missing Eject in "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" List

I use to be able to eject my USB drive via "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" with list as below:

- Open Devices and Printers
- Eject Data Traveler 111
- USB Drive (D
- Eject My Passport Ultra
- My Passport (E

However recently the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" list seems corrupted and shows:

- Open Devices and Printers
- USB Drive (D

- My Passport (E

with { - USB Drive (D } and { - My Passport (E } are grayed out.

Currently the only way for me is go to file explorer and right click the removable drive and click Eject.

Please help!

The configuration to this can be found under settings. To enable this feature follow these steps:

1. Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
   
2. Under Notification Area, choose
   Select which icons appear on the taskbar.
3. Scroll to Windows Explorer: Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media
   and turn it on.

If this doesn't work, I suggest that you check with your USB drive manufacturer for new drivers or other updates.

Safely remove hardware and eject

Prior to the latest update In Windows 10, when I wanted to eject a USB i clicked on the safely remove hardware icon, it now directs me to devices and printers, but my usb's are not listed. Why?
