I wouldn't expect to get any "Upgrade to Windows 10" updates in Windows 7. The free upgrade offer has been announced as over. Unofficially you can still do it, but I don't think Microsoft is pushing it via Windows update anymore.

  2. Hi,
Yep but I don't believe the op has really said exactly how he ended up upgrading to 10 either *Smile
Wonder if it was just a popup message on an MS website.... that the op used ?

Either way like I said before the upgrade updates are still being delivered through the update system
Whether they work or not is another story *Smile

I can verify that current Windows 7 installations are not nagging to upgrade to Windows 10.

I'd like to see a screen shot of the exact message. The exact wording of said message.

You are seriously over reacting. Something has glitched -it is not deliberate.

Too late to do anything now. In future, learn how to make image backups before doing ANY major change.

e.g. Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect Backup Restore Tutorials

  6. I discovered something, maybe I can go back.

I had made a cloned copy of win10, it boots and works fine.
I had then tried to go back on the cloned copy, and that failed.

I just plugged in the originally installed drive, and tried to go back and it says I can. And gave me a screen asking for the reason.

I have destroyed the clone, so I suppose now I should remake the clone of win10 and try to go back again using the original noncloned drive. What a pain.

If I go back to win 7 on the original non cloned drive, will the cloned win10 drive still work? Regardless win10 is not useful to me on this media TV pc anyway.

  7. Hi,
Clone is a clone it will work no matter what you do
Well unless you format it that will make it not a clone anymore *Smile

  9. Interesting, first time I have seen this. I did backup windows.old by archiving into a zip file. It is about 25gb in size.

  10. Make sure to create system image of the operating system before manually reverting back your PC to Windows 7.

  11. All sorts of trouble started happening to this PC.
I put in a drive to do a clone, it had an old win7 on it. Win10 refused to boot, then said it had a drive status power issue, collected data shut down restart, win10 took forever to finally show the desktop, claimed it was fixing c: drive.
I have this TV program sichbopvr, when it came on it had lost all its configurations.

Ok, so win10 was finally up. I installed Macrium. I did a clone. The clone got to 99% and it failed with an error could not read file or something, no permissions. Then suddenly the desktop says windows is not activated.

I ran the activation troubleshooter, claimed there was a digital license for the version of win10 pro on the machine but it did not match my user account or something.

Well I gave up. I just told it to go back to win7, which was activated before all this weirdness.

  12. Well the go back option is not working. I go back to look at it, it had booted the recovery drive.
I went to troubleshoot, recovery, go back to earlier OS, and it says it cant. So I lost it all!

Now I have to reinstall win7 maybe from scratch. Really mad about this, all these wasted days.
Weirdness, totally stupid dumb stuff is happening.

    Use bootable media to:

    1. rename/delete the win10 os folders.

    2. copy/move the contents of Windows.old onto the partition.

  15. May be worth trying that.

I think ultimately the way forward is a complete wipe out it all and reinstall fresh win7 pro. Make sure it is activated. Then clone it.
Then do the free win10 upgrade just to have it as a freebie. But just run win7 for the WMC.
win10 upgrade is still available if you use assitance technology till dec 31 this year.

Can I dual boot win7 with win10 or will the activation blow up again?

My win7 was activated, so I dont know what happened. I am trying a PC reset now.
