    Windows 10 Says Unplanned Shutdown When Using Power > Shutdown


    My computer keeps telling me I've had unplanned shutdowns when I have used the Power > Shutdown option. I've tried sfc/scannow and clean boot but neither has worked. Please halp!

    • When you say that "shutdown -I", how exactly have you shutdown the computer? Have you tried to shutdown the computer by typing command "shutdown -I" in the command prompt?
    • Have you tried to shutdown using power button in the Start Menu?

    I suggest you to try to shutdown the computer by following below steps and check if the same issue occurs or not.

    1. Click on Start Menu.

    2. Click on Power button and then click on Shut down.

    Windows 10 Power Shutdown - less keystrokes?

    Is there any way to program settings to allow 2 strokes to shutdown?

    Windows 7 allowed 2 strokes (Start and then Shutdown as the default selection). In Windows 10 it's Start/Power/Shutdown.

    I Shutdown 2 or 3 times a day and it's just a nuisance to have to do an extra stroke and mouse over to select again.

    Can 'Power' be changed to have same selection as Windows 7 or at least show a Jump List for Power?

    Windows 10 Says Unplanned Shutdown When Using Power > Shutdown

    PC is Suffering Unexpected Shutdowns

    Most important detail to me would be whether these shutdowns are sudden, in which case it's likely a short or PSU issue (capacitor aging maybe?) or graceful windows style shutdowns, which suggests software interference.

    It could also be overheating components if it's a sudden shutdown. What are your thermals like?
