Windows 10 Scheduled Disk Check Won't Run on system startup

Hi there im having problem with my windows 10 Pro 64 bit I get a notification to restart my computer to repair disk errors every time I restart my system it fails to run disk repair. So I run a check disk scan first, Run as Administrator command by typing chkdsk C: /scan with no problems I’ve got some repairs to be fixed offline. So I use the command chkdsk C: /spotfix and I get Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) Y This volume will be checked the next time the system restarts.
Whenever I schedule a disk check and restart the computer, absolutely nothing happens my system simply boots up as it normally does. So I Open registry and browse to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager
“BootExecute” The registry value for BootExecute reads: autocheck autochk /p \??\C: autocheck autochk *
My file System is NTFS and my Disk is FUJITSU_MHZ2320BJ_G2 please help me to solve this issue.

    :)

  2. Fix " User profile cannot be loaded"

That often occurs due to corrupt files.

Schedule a Disk check using the following:

Right Click Start and Select Command Prompt(admin)

    CHKSDK C: /f

Press Yes to Schedule the disk check at next startup

Hi, I'd suggest running chkdsk C: /F from a boot disk, then when that's ok, boot up and run sfc /Scannow from an elevated command prompt.

Once all clear, you can try a scheduled chkdsk again to see if that works.

Note: I like a utility called 'chkdsk assist'. There's also ChdskGUI - not tried it.

I've used chkdsk assist - these are just front ends to chkdsk- a convenience. So there shouldn't really be a problem, so long as the parameters for chkdsk remain unchanged.

Windows 10 Scheduled Disk Check Won't Run on system startup

Hi, You can also easily get yourself a Win 10 boot disk - free. A quick search tells you how to do that- instructions posted widely on the internet.
Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums
So you get yourself a boot disk and run chkdsk from that.

This shows you the startup options from your Win 10 boot disk
Advanced Startup Options - Boot to in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Look for 'command prompt' in the above.
So you can then run chkdsk.

You may need this disk to do an inplace repair install if there's no other way of sorting your problem, by booting normally and using your new Win 10 disk.
    Instructions here:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

    Strongly recommended:
If you are not already in the habit of using disk imaging, start now. Windows is, sadly, fragile. Using disk imaging lets you get out of predicaments without specialist technical knowledge and in a defined short time.

Before any significant repair actions, get a copy of e.g. Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backupper (free).
Install and create the boot CD.
You need an external USB disk, say twice the size of the partition/disk you are backing up for long term use.
    Create a disk image.
This should be done regularly as a matter of course with Windows, being fragile. Subsequent backups are smaller and fast being differential or incremental.
It also gives you a complete backup from which you can extract files.

Hi, not sthg I've had to do, but a quick search for
    "create bootable usb from iso"
    suggests (e.g.)
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

Bear in mind your BIOS boot priorities may have to be changed for you to boot from a USB device.

When did your CD/DVD drive stop working? Is that indicative of your range of problems, or sthg else?

Oh, and you'd need to check about using a USB device for in-place repair if it comes to that.

I didn't see the recommendation, or that you turned Fast Boot off in BIOS(If you have it on) then give chkdsk a shot.

Hi, I see what Cliff S is getting at vis á vis fast boot... MS seems to have created a situation where with fast boot (where a lot more is stored on disk from your previous session e.g. so you can seem to boot faster 'cos it's reloaded) means the mechanism whereby a scheduled chkdsk is run is not actually implemented. Hmm. (I have an older laptop so haven't experienced these joys). It's associated with F8 not being available by default to let you access the boot menu by repeatedly pressing it.

However your laptop is probably 2009 vintage- did it come with Vista? HP ProBook 4310s.. so probably doesn't use UEFI - but has a BIOS. Is that correct?

    Now try following this
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
to turn off fast startup, then see if you can schedule chkdsk.

However, you really should try creating your Windows USB drive, as I have a feeling you're going to need it, and that should be a clear way to get chkdsk run, if you can get your PC booting from it.

The following is really for interest and completeness only... ignore if you're not technically inclined:

    Note the comment here:
Why Doesn't Scheduled Chkdsk Run On Restart?
This gives lots of detail about chkdsk vs fast boot.

"If it (chkdsk) will not start, it means that the system has detected no problems with the file system on the drive." I don't know if that's true.

Regarding your CD/DVD drive- is that known to be a hardware fault?
