Windows 10: Windows 10 - Screen and task bar flashing since about 3 weeks ago after updates

Hi everyone and let me thank you in advance.


I've got an older Dell L501X XPS laptop which is almost unusable since updates 3 weeks ago.


It starts up just fine and shows the login screen ok but after I log into the machine the task bar and screen are white and continuously flashing.


I can start task manager and run things from there device manager, internet explorer...pretty much anything except for anything to do with updates. I get class errors when trying to open windows update to verify what has / hasn't been installed or to remove anything.


The same behaviour occurs when in safe mode with the exception that the screen and task bar are black, not white.


I've tried Windows repair, I've restored to a previous working restore point always with the same result. I've also installed CCLeaner Pro and it has not been able to solve any issues so I'm reaching out to the experts.


My issue is that I don't want to completely reset the machine as I will lose my office installation was done as part of a home use program which I cannot "re-download" ... thanks Microsoft!

task bar icons are now flashing since update 2 days ago

since yet another windows 10 auto update 2 days ago ... the task bar is now randomly flashing .. it is VERY annoying .. sort it

 

Windows 10 Defender - How to make it default to task bar?

Using Windows 10 and currently I am using Defender for anti virus. For whatever reason Windows Defender does not show up in the task bar unless I search for the program or right click and scan a file/folder. Is there a way to force Defender to show up in the task bar at start up?

 

After Windows 10 update screen is black, task bar is almost empty and flashes repeatedly.

After Windows 10 update screen is black and task bar is empty except for Windows Icon, Cortona search field, and date, time and message icon. Task bar flashes repeatedly and system does not respond to mouse click.
