    Windows 10 Search not working.

So I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and ever since the windows search bar hasn't been working like it should. If I type in a program that's installed on my computer it wont show up. Literally nothing can be found when I type in an application thats installed on my PC. I've already re-indexed the search and deleted a registry folder that was suppose to fix the issue and its still not working. This is very annoying as I cant find anything thats installed on my computer. Anyone know how to fix this?

    :)

    Windows 10 Search not working.

Open "All Settings"....in the "find a settings" box.....start typing what you are searching for.

Hi, does Cortana respond to anything you type in its search box- including internet search?

Considering Windows search, which seems to be your concern, check what's indexed in Control Panel, Indexing Options. Have you modified this at all? The ability to find programs depends on what's selected under Users.

To check Windows search is working without using Cortana, which as you know depends on indexed search,, launch file explorer, navigate to an indexed folder.

Check if indexed search appears to be effective.

If Windows search is working, it's presumably a Cortana problem.

And you can also try searching in Settings. If the result is quick, Windows search is presumably working.

You can also watch Indexing options, and add an item in an indexed location. You should see the number of indexed items increase.

Post back confirming if Windows search is working or not, and whether your problem is Cortana specific.

    @dalchina, thank you for replying!

Yes, windows search does work. If I search, for example, "Visual Studio" it brings up the folders and files but NOT the application. This happens for everything. If I type in "Steam" I get the directory of steam but NOT the application. This happens for all my programs that I have installed. Also to note, I have Windows 10 Education which by default does not come with Cortana. So its not a Cortana issue.

Here is a screenshot of my indexed files:

Hi, I've never seen Windows Education, so will pass on that as far as however the search bar - which I assume is in the taskbar- is implemented. Normally that's regarded as part of Cortana.

Noted you have program files + program files (x86) + Windows (CSC) in addition to defaults in Indexing Options.
    - um.. which registry key?

    Go back to file explorer.
Does the search field there find files for you?
(I've recently done some work on fixing search not finding indexed content in some file types)

    You could try this:

If you want a trouble-free start menu, try Classic Shell (free). Comes with a highly configurable search field.

You can do a "In Place" Repair and not lose anything. It is suggested because of one problem after another pops up when you do an upgrade install. That is because there were issues in the OS that you were not aware of, that installing 10 just made things worse. The other is a Nuke and install. You format the drive for a fresh install and install as if you just replaced the drive. 10 is still active, but it gets rid of any prior issues from rolling over from a peior OS to an upgrade with 10.
