  1. Windows 10 September 2019 update causing blank screen on login

My wife ran the latest Windows update on September 19th, 2019 - no apparent problems. She logged in afterwards to answer the various upgrade questions. She then started the machine this morning - all fine. She logged out, I logged in. It went through the final stages of update for my user, but I didn't get any questions to answer. Everything appears to work ok but my background picture has gone - just icons and toolbar on a black screen. I then closed the machine down.

Later, I started the machine up again - it just hangs after login with a blank screen. After around 10-15 minutes , I used my tablet to find an HP community article describing this problem. In summary, I brought up the task manager and restarted the 'App-Readiness' service. My main screen with icons and task bar then displayed within a few seconds. This is obviously a problem to do with the latest update.

    Two main points:

    1. This is only a problem when I log in; my wife is able to start the machine and login immediately with no apparent issues. She did the upgrade, so this problem appears to be only affecting additional users. (Also, not sure if this is significant, but she did the update because she was logged in at the time and when she closed the machine down, it started the update process. But I'm the administrator - would that have any effect?)

    2. The HP forum think this is an HP specific problem. It isn't - we're running a Toshiba laptop. I suspect the problem is user oriented, not machine oriented.

    :)

I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of days. The system was up and running that day and the next (yesterday 17 September). Today, the screen is blank and the mouse pointer comes up but no login box. I have tried all suggestions on the help forums. to no avail. What should I do? Thank you for any help.
