    Windows 10 serious issues

Hey guys, bit of a lengthy one here but we'd appreciate your help

So, the past couple of days we've been having real issues with our Compaq CQ2000 PC with Windows 10 installed on it (upgraded from windows 8 about 2 years ago).

First issue I noticed was a massive graphical issue when logging in one day. The resolution was waaaaay down, and the display was not centered to the monitor (it was shifted left, so had a black bar on the right side with the left hand side off the monitor).

A day later, it was working okay. But yesterday, it appears nothing works.

It gets to the login screen to choose from 3 users. Upon logging in to any user, the basic Task Bar (no icons, no volume control etc. Just the windows icon, search bar, and datetime) and wallpaper will load, but NO icons at all.
When hovering the cursor over the task bar, the circular loading icon appears and doesn't disappear.. When trying to click the taskbar, the screen turns black, and then reloads the wallpaper and taskbar, just the same. Also, periodically it will pop up an error message to wait or close, and then will reload.

ctrl alt delete will bring up the blue screen with 'lock, switch user...' etc options, but task manager WILL NOT OPEN upon clicking it.

I pressed shift + restart from the login screen or option screen to bring up the troubleshooting. I launched system restore to take it back to a few days ago, but it failed and an error message said there was 1 file it could not restore, and nothing changed.

I launched Startup repair but that also said 'startup repair couldnt repair your PC'

I also tried to restart in safe mode, with and without networking. Both times resulted in the same original problem with the 'safe mode' wallpaper and the taskbar loading but unresponsive with loading cursor, but no icons loading.

I launched command prompt from the ctrlaltdel options screen. I tried 'chkdsk' which said it found problems, but chkdsk c: /f said fix the problem, as did chkdsk c: /r.

I've used sfc /scannow which netted me 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'

I am 100% using it as an administrator, too.

I've checked inside and everything is seated fine

How do I sort this out?! I can't even troubleshoot the troubleshooter.

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

    • Installation problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Microsoft Edge problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Drivers problems with the Fall Creators Update
    • Experience problems with the Fall Creators Update
keep in mind, as of recently, the FCU is installed on 5% of devices roughly.....
