Windows 10: Windows 10 server dependencies

Hi, does anyone know what the Windows server dependencies are for Windows 10? ie. does the domain need to be upgraded? Are there any legacy protocols that no longer work etc?

Windows 10 is to be the last number for Windows.

When was server 2008 released? When was server 2012 released? When was server 2016 released?

Even though Windows 10 is said to be the last numbered Windows there have been and will be versions.

1506, 1511, 1607, and the next 1703 or 1704 or 1705 depending when it is released to the public. Those numbers are year and month.

 

How long should upgrading to windows 10 take?

It depends on many factors.

The server delivering you windows 10.

Your connection speed etc.

So better wait till download completes.

 

Keep an eye on things like Microsoft's Technet release notes. A Windows 10 client should be able to join an existing domain but remember Windows 10 is built on a different platform than even Windows 2012, so I guess to be fully compatible we have to wait for the next server edition to be fully released. I heard of people having issues with group policies and with authentication, but we haven't tried it yet in our company. I may install one to see how it goes on our Win 2008R2 setup. For sure there are going to be patches and updates coming out to accommodate Windows 10 in existing domains.
I have heard that you can use Win 10 clients in Win 2003 domains.
