Windows 10: Windows 10 settings continues to open then close.

it had first started when i had updated and shut down a few days ago. then i had noticed the settings application would open then close every time i tried to open it to change settings.


Then i had tried to change display settings and i would get an error that popped up and said "no app associated with it".

I have installed different versions of windows 10 on multiple clean/ brand new hdd's and ssd's and still having the same issues.

I also am unable to update drivers or install some programs like nvidia geforce experience or steam.


on top of those issues sometimes task manager would open and close just the same as windows setting and trying to update windows continues to pop up with errors. ive tried multiple fixes and nothing has changed.

• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Settings closes just after opening.

I suggest you to try the below troubleshooting steps and check:

• Press CTRL+Shift+ESC, to open the Task manager.
• Click File > Run New Task.
• Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges” Type
  Powershell.
• Type the following in the Powershell prompt:

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml'; Add- AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

5. Close the Powershell window

6. Reboot/Restart the computer.

Windows 10 Settings is not opening

I appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

• What exactly happens when you try to open setting?
• Do you get any error message or error code on the screen?

This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow
the below given steps:

• Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
• In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter.
• Restart the computer.

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
• In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

• Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.
