Windows 10 Shared PC Mode - Issue when cleaning out profiles

I work for a university and I am one of the persons responsible for setting up the devices. We have configured Shared PC Mode for a few years and have not really had any issues. At least we thought so. Today i noticed a few clients which has low disk space and it turns out they can not clear old profile-folders.

If i look at Win32_UserProfile the computer shows 5 profiles, which is correct but if i list C:\users it lists almost 30 folders.

If i try to run the following i get an error:

    Remove-Item -Recurse -Force -Path C:\Users\USERNAME

    Error message:

Identifieraren som angavs i begäran och identifieraren som angavs i referenspunkten stämmer inte överens The identifier specified in the request and the identifier specified in the reference point do not match - google translate

If i try to run Remove-Item without Recurse, it tells me this:

remove-item : C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.SkypeApp_kzf8qxf38zg5c\LocalCache is an NTFS junction point. Use the Force parameter to delete or modify this object.

I have tried to remove the folder which a powershell process running as SYSTEM and thats when i receive the errors above.

I am starting to fear that this has something to do with our previous problems regarding the startmenu not working on several occasions.

Windows version in this case is 1803 17134.1304 and the version of the SkypeApp if that is of importance is 14.56.102.0.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 temporary profile issue

    Hi,

Thank you for replying. I do appreciate your efforts and time, and will assist you with the issue.

Please follow the methods below and see if it helps:

Method 1: Follow the steps below to check the issue occurs in safe mode if not perform a clean boot please follow the steps below:

    Step 1: Safe mode

Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. It can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC. For example, if the problem doesn't happen in safe mode, you'll know default settings and basic device drivers
    aren't causing the issue.

    Please refer the article below:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

    Step 2: Cleanboot

I would also suggest you to do a clean boot and check if any third party apps are causing the issue.
Placing the computer in a clean boot state can reduce software conflicts and help identify the root cause of the issue.

Please refer to the article below for steps to perform a clean boot.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Once you are done with the troubleshooting, perform the steps in "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot "to reset computer
    as usual.

    Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the graphics card driver and see if it helps.

Please follow the steps below to uninstall:

    1. Right Click on Start, Select Device Manager.

    2. Find and double-click the category of device whose driver you wish to uninstall, the graphics card would be listed under Display Adapters.

    3. Right-click the device, and click Uninstall.

    • Windows will prompt you to confirm the device’s removal. Click
      OK to remove the driver.

    • After the uninstallation is complete, reboot your computer as soon as possible.

    Method 3:

I suggest you to disable the fast startup. You may follow the steps below for the same.

    • Go to Control panel, Click on the Power Options.
    • Select Change what the power buttons do.
    • Under shutdown settings uncheck the option for fast startup.

Hope this information helps. Please post us if you need any further assistance with Windows.

    Thank you.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
