Windows 10: Windows 10 skips BCD bootloader on cold boot

Hello,I am facing a very obscure issue. To solve Windows update issues relevant issue, I am now using the Windows BCD bootloader using EasyBCD with Linux as the default boot option after 10s. However, I can reliably reproduce the following issue:Cold boot from battery: Bootloader menu skipped. Windows bootsWarm boot from battery e.g. Ctrl+Atl+Del or reboot from login screen: Bootloader menu shows up, Linux boots after 10 seconds without user interactionCold boot when connected to the mains: Bootloader menu shows up. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

There is three options:
Windows 10
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

 

Booting to Ubuntu with vista bootloader

I looked into doing this too recently. I found conflicting info on it, but it all ended up more complicated than it was worth to me (it involves creating the bootloader in a hidden partition or something, then editing grub in bcd in windows and re-writing the mbe). It was much easier to simply let GRUB install at the beginning of the hdd as it is defaulted to do. This will boot up the grub menu, which you can then select either ubuntu or windows bootloader, which will take you to that.

As for running apps, many seem to be required to run through the terminal (I'm new as well). Google the extension type (in your case .bin) in ubuntu and you should hopefully find a way.

 

Windows 10 Doesn't Boot

Provided both OSes main partitions are still there, it's always possible to recreate the windows bootloader and the grub bootloader, one after the other.

If it's a matter of recreating your windows bootloader from scratch, here's how to do it.

From your Windows DVD / usb key, drop into console and follow those instructions:

You should be good to go, Windows 10 should boot properly.
