Windows 10 Sleep and Power On/Off problems

Okay im going to try to explain this as best I can.

I am not sure when this problem started, but it was a few months ago. Im just starting to worry about it now because its starting to annoy me.

Basically whenever I turn on my computer using the top power button, it doesnt work at all. I have an LED keyboard so I know power is going into the desktop and its going into the keyboard so power is not the issue. I click the keyboard and it starts up and turns on, but the desktop itself doesnt turn on. The way I fix this problem everytime to get on my computer is I go to the back of the desktop and flip the power switch for 3 seconds, then on and wait 3 more seconds and then click the power button on the top and it then turns on. Im really confused as why this happens and why the top power button works after I flip the back switch off/on.

The same goes as sleep mode. When I put my desktop in sleep mode, the light flashes on the top of the discord indicating it is in sleep mode, but when I click with my mouse, touch my keyboard, click the power button to wake it up, it no longer wakes up and stays asleep. To fix this I do the same thing as before and flip the power switch off/on and it reboots the computer and I lose all my progress.

Any advice on how to fix this?

    :)

  2. sleep mode and power options not working on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Forums.

For issues with sleep mode and power options follow the steps provided below.

Run the Power troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Type Troubleshooting in search and click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Now type Power in the search option.
    • Click on Power troubleshooter to run.

I would suggest you to try updating the Display driver and check if the issue persists. If you already have all the latest drivers from Windows updates, then I would suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's website, download and install the latest
drivers in compatibility mode and check.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Power & Sleep problems in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I will be glad to assist you with the issue you are experiencing with the computer. I understand the difficulty when things won’t work the way they should.

You can create a new power plan and check. Also, you can run the Power troubleshooter to adjust your computer's power settings. The Power troubleshooter checks things like your computer's timeout settings, which determine how
long the computer waits before turning off the monitor display or entering sleep mode. Adjusting these settings can help you conserve power and extend your computer's battery life.

    Method: 1

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with power. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Power.

    Refer these steps:

    • Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
    • Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
    • Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
    • Run the Power troubleshooter
    Method: 2

    Change the “Power plans” settings.

A power plan is a collection of hardware and system settings (like display, sleep, etc.) that manages how your PC uses power. The power plans you can use depend on the kind of PC you have.

Click on the below given link to “How to create and delete a power plan”.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/power-plans-faq

Important: Also applies for Windows 10 also.

I hope this helps, if the issue persists do let us know we will be happy to help you.

    Thank you.

  4. Windows 10 Sleep and Power On/Off problems

    missing sleep menu in power

    Hi,

Missing Sleep option in Power menu is usually caused by outdated or corrupted device drivers. For us to better assist you, we would like to ask the following:

    • Have you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?
    • When you check the Power options in Control Panel, did you mean that the Sleep option is not displaying in the Shutdown settings?

If you haven't check the Shutdown settings in Control Panel, we suggest to do so and make sure that the Sleep option is enabled. To check the Shutdown settings, follow these steps:

    • In Cortana search, type control panel.
    • Choose Control Panel from the list.
    • Click System and Security and select Power Options.
    • Click Choose what the power buttons do in the left pane of the window.
    • Under Shutdown settings, put a tick in the Sleep
      box and click Save changes.

If the Sleep option is already enabled and it still doesn't appear in the Power menu, we recommend that you keep the device drivers up-to-date. For your reference, check this article on how to
    update drivers in Windows 10.

Update us with the outcome so we can provide further assistance.
