Windows 10: Windows 10 sleeps after 3 minutes, no matter what.

Ever since i downloaded windows 10 my lenovo idea pad will go to sleep after only 3 minutes of inactivity. Iv'e gone into the setting and changed it to what I want but no matter what I do it it stays the same. It's extremely frustrating could anyone please help.

PC going to sleep after 2 minutes no matter what the power setting are.

I have a Toshiba Satellite S75 laptop running Windows 10. It has a 2.60GHz CPU, 8Gb Ram and a 700 Gb hard drive. Recently my PC has started going to sleep after 2 minutes no matter what the setting are. I am using the Balanced power plan. The laptop
is plugged in and those setting are set as follows: a) turn screen off - 3 hours; b) put computer to sleep 4 hours. I checked advanced power settings and found the following: 1) turn hard disk off after - 300 minutes; 2) sleep after 240 minutes; 3) Allow
hybred sleep is off; 4) hibernate after - 300 minutes and 5) turn off display after 180 minutes. Again all of these setting are for when the computer is plugged in.

The screen saver is set to start after 20 minutes of inactivity.

Any suggestions on how to get it to quite going to sleep after 2 minutes of inactivity? Thanks.

 

Windows 10 Goes to Sleep Too Early

Me too. I have tried all screensaver settings and all power settings that should control it. Nothing changes - it sleeps after about 3 minutes of inactivity - no matter what setting I change.

 

Probably related to settings prior to upgrade. Do you recall the settings on your previous system? I have a similar problem with one laptop in relation to telling it never to ask for a password after it sleeps and every time it sleeps it wants a password! I will eventually check registry and see what's up!

 

have you checked your BIOS settings? Try doing a BIOS reset to factory default.

 

Before the update I had it set to an hour of inactivity before it would go into sleep mode and I never had a problem with it but from the moment I updated it has always been like this.

 

Ditto - My laptop is sleeping every minute of inactivity as if it was a phone not a laptop. Driving me crazy as it needs a password on wake up every time.

 

Finally found the solution,just in time too because I swear I was about to go insane.

Right click on desktop > Power and sleep > Additional power settings > Choose when to turn off the display > Change advanced power settings > Restore plan defaults

I don't know why but this completely got rid of the issue and I was then able to make the settings whatever I wanted.

Since upgrade from Win 8 to Win 10 I had this same issue and I checked multiple times my settings. It would randomly sleep after about 1 minute but sometimes it would wait the time actually defined in the settings. I have done your suggested reset now and then changed my settings back to what I wanted. I'll just have to see if this fixes it. Since it is random it may take a few uses of the laptop to ensure it is working correctly now.

 

My HP Envy laptop still sleeps within 1 or 2 minutes randomly. It almost seems to alternate between 1 or 2 minutes and then my full minute settings. I did not have this issue with the original Win 8 that came on the laptop only since going to Win 10. Note, I have a USB mouse/keyboard and monitor hooked up via a HDMI cable so not sure if that is contributing to this issue or not.

 

Thanks for this. It was driving me nuts too. I had my own custom power plan and I guess it got corrupted when I upgraded from W8.1 or was incompatible with W10. Anyway, I deleted that plan and reverted to using one of the default ones on default settings as you recommended and it works now. Thanks so much!

 

I had this problem on a Lenovo e550 purchased with Windows 10 installed. I corrected it with the fix mentioned in another thread on this forum at Monitor turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity - Page 3 - Windows 10 Forums
Issue seems to mainly be with laptops using external keyboard and mouse, and waking from the external device.
I did the fix just a few hours ago, but it seems to have worked for me and a number of others.

I had this same issue on two Microsoft surface 3 tablets, one was a replacement, both brand new and came with Windows10. They both would sleep after one minute regardless of the setting. Attempts mentioned here did not rectify the problem, only after a call to a Microsoft tech and allowing him remote access fix the problem.

This totally helped. Thank you so much. I had indeed customized the power settings (in Win 7).. Changed the settings back to "default" and no more problem on this issue with Win 10. It wouldn't surprise me if other quirks in 10 might be related to an assumption of default settings in the prior OS. Worth keeping in mind anyway.
