Windows 10: Windows 10 sleeps after 3 minutes, no matter what.

This didnt work for me. It may have temporarily worked, but not permanently. Screen still turning off way before it should. Maddening. Tried all the troubleshooting, scannow and DISM.exe stuff. Nothin worked. And this didnt work either.

 

Are you using a theme that perhaps has the screen saver setting on? I had that happen to me once, I changed from a theme with no screen saver to one that turned the screen saver on that I hadn't noticed and I tried all kinds of fixes until I checked and found out that the screen saver setting was on and set to turn off after one minute.

I dont have any external keyboard attached.. never have. i use the Lenovo laptop keyboard with the teeny shift key and home key next to return.

 

I have screen saver off. when i ran the trouble shooter, it always says to disable screen saver. that is recommended for some reason. i dont use screen saver anymore. It wasnt reliable anyway. always issues with windows 10..drives me nuts. So i screen saver is set to none. I did troubleshooter, DISM.exe and scannow stuff and none of that helped. Display still shuts off after 1 minute of inactivity. So annoying.

 

This worked for me. it was the theme

 

What do you mean 'using a theme"?
My screen saver is set to 3 minutes right now. Works sometimes and other times it doesnt. Unreliable.
None of the troubleshooting works. Scannow didnt help. Reverting to default power settings didnt work. It is just unreliable. Turns off sometimes after a couple minutes of inactivity. The screen saver on 2 or 3 min seems to work 75% of the time so i use that. It even turns off the monitor after 5minutes sometimes like it should. Problem is that it never keeps working properly. i just lowered my expectations and live with it.

Unfortunately this solution did not work for me. I had seen it posted somewhere else and had already tried it, but it still goes to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity. I have two machines running Win 10 (a desktop and a laptop), both have the issue, and this fix did not work for either machine. I have also checked the theme and the screen saver is turned off on both machines.

It gets really frustrating how there is always something like this when the new version of Windows comes out. There are some nice things about Win 10, but as usual there are many bugs. I understand some bugs are to be expected with new software, so I usually wait until a service pack comes out before considering an upgrade. However, this time Microsoft decided to basically force this "upgrade" on me.

Thanks for posting this as it worked for me also. I don't need the computer sleeping when I'm in the middle of a session.

 

I assume this is a Microsoft thing, since every fix I have found for this has not worked. So I am guessing it is just some bug in the operating system that Microsoft has not gotten around to fixing yet (as usual). Come on Microsoft...FIX THIS. If you are going to force me to upgrade, the least you can do is fix your bugs.

I have found a workaround using a downloaded no sleep program that moves the mouse one pixel back and forth every thirty seconds or so. Imperceptible to the eye, but enough to make the computer still think it is in use so that it will not sleep. It is ridiculous that I have to rely on third party software just to keep my computer awake. Plus, it is very easy to forget that it is running, and then go off to work and my computer never goes to sleep.

 

I have a Lenovo e540 and had similar issues. I was able to resolve most of my power (sleep) issues by disabling the Lenovo PM Service (Lenovo Power Management Service). I think it was overriding the Windows 10 settings no matter what I did.

 

i was have the same problem,

when i changed,

Contol panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options
Select from left panel "What the power buttons do"
And make all button options, "Do nothing"

the problem solved for me

Note: I am using notebook with external screen, my notebook's screen always closed, but windows 10 doesn't know

 

I had the same problem and was reading the answers in this forum. I went and set everything to default in my power settings. Still didn't do the trick. Now I hate to admit this, but sometimes we overlook the most easy answer, and hey, if this answer helps one person besides me, it was worth it. I went and checked out my screensaver. Lo and behold, it was set to one minute for it to activate and it was set on the blank screen saver. I don't know how it got like that, maybe someone playing a prank on me, but this is what fixed my problem. LOL I wish everything was this easy to fix.
