  1. Windows 10 slow after manually updating to Creators Update

I tried to delete thumbnail cache via the cleanup too, didn't help. Color profile may help a little, but what definitely helped to me was setting default app for image file formats to be old Windows Photo Viewer instead of the modern Photos app. That reverts the performance back to pre-Creators Update state.

It also makes sense, because thumbnail generation is always responsibility of the app chosen as default for given file format.

I don't that the problem is solved, because I seriously doubt that thumbnail caching is in any way connected to Microsoft Photo app. Changing defaults do not improve the performance.

I did the *.png test and it works very smoothly there. I tried changing the size of icon preview and I ran the test few times. Everything smooth there.

My windows version is 15063.138. I will try to update to .205 and see what happens.

  3. I am really sorry it does not work you. It definitely works for me. I've even made a video to show you I am not kidding, here: Windows 10 Creators Update slow explorer thumbnail loading fix - YouTube

It really makes a big difference in my case.

I am also running latest cumulative update, which I've updated to yesterday, and that itself did not fix anything for me, so I doubt it will fix anything for you.

You should really try to change default app for your image files if you haven't yet *Smile

If you're not using Photos, you may want to make sure you have no albums configured.

  5. Not sure what exactly you mean? Albums somehow decrease Photos' performance, or...?

So was mine (I clean installed CrU) but After a few days it speeded up, I also ran CCleaner but wasn't any immediate improvement.

  7. Hi,

What hard drive are you using?

Did you do the upgrade from your current W10 instal, if so it would of left a file on there call windows.old which is an undeletable 20gb or so ?

Just run a defrag program like Perfect Disk 14 in trial mode as it will have messed your hard drive up as it sounds like a HDD ?

You can roll the update back you know as it is not compulsary on any machine yet also ?

You could also do a clean instal which would remove all the bloatware which comes with the machine ?

Windows 10 slow after manually updating to Creators Update

Thanks. I had the same issue and that fixed it for me. The issue started immediately after the Windows 10 Creators Update.

When opening directories with a bunch of photos in them I could count one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three, one thousand four, one thousand five, one thousand six before the contents were displayed even with directories on my SSD. After changing the default program for opening image files the quick display of directory contents was restored.

  10. I just checked mine and it says I am also on 15063.138. Where is the .250 update? I ran check updates and it says I am up to date.

I even have tin foil around my windows to repel intruders. THEY must have uncovered a backdoor to circumvent my security. *Smile

  14. I've tried the suggested fixes (Window Picture Viewer, etc.) and am still seeing the slow display, sluggish image display (tin foil hat not required Windows 10 slow after manually updating to Creators Update :) Even used Powershell to fully remove Photos. Am now uninstalling the latest version of CorelDraw (2017) that I installed around the same time as the CU. Will report if there are any breakthroughs.

Some have found the 'indexing' has had an effect- however Photos maintains its database of folders placed into Albums.
